Magic Weapons?

By Tarthonis, in WFRP Rules Questions

So WFRP is a sparse loot, low magic fantasy realm, and I love it. But we recently ran into an issue during a session that I was looking for some feedback on.

What actually counts as a magic weapon? would a weapon with a rune count as magic? What would give a weapon magical properties?

We were fighting Grave banshees there was some confusion when I came to how much damage we were dealing.

we do have magic weapons in our game, not enchanted with runes yet though.

our weapons are sometimes enchanted by elves or by something evil

they give a +1 damage rating or add boons to the result of a roll. but in the same way they also have downsides, some are unreliable, some are evil and i design a meter on which i gather tokens, when it's full something bad happens. for example our troll slayer found an axe with +1 damage AND adding 2 boons to the results pool of a meele attack. he did not realise that it was enchanted by dark magic of khorne and slowly turned him into one of his servants...

I'm shocked a dwarf would have used a magic weapon, as opposed to a rune weapon.

would you count rune weapon as magic, when a "magic" weapon is needed?

Yes...... rune's are dwarf magic ......

Well the point was that the character himself did not know that the weapon was magic, it just felt better in his hands than normal weapons do....of course for that it takes a player who knows his character would not recognize magic when he has got it in his hands.

right, but for instance, the item "Kordin's hammer" doesn;t not list "magic as on of it's qualities, even though it has a rune on it. Also, some runes are pretty specific. Would a weapon with a lesser demon bane still be counted as a magic weapon against a banshee, even though there is no possible way to activate the rune?

In my oppinion, yes. In Warhammer Fantasy Battles all rune weapons are magic weapons and thus are counted as magic weapons against etheral creatures such as a banshee, ghost or a wraith. Even if a character (in WFB) has a magic weapon which gives him bonuses when trying to slay large monsters (such as dragons or hydras), it's magical and thus works better against etherals even if they do not fit in the large monsters category.

The same holds true in WFRP I believe. Kordin's hammer would be considered a magical weapon, at least in my games.

If it's magical it's magical. ;)

In the spirit of not trying to screw my PC too much I would absolutely accept this. Thanks for the replies.
