Personal wargear

By Gurkhal, in Deathwatch House Rules

As a player of Deathwatch I can't say that I have a 100% check on all the rules but one thing that always bothered me was that with little else it seems to me, and I can of course be wrong, that there is only limited options to get hold of personal wargear of a more advance sort that one can form a personal relation with and which can be a good source for RP would be to give the characters some of the more advanced stuff as wargear.

Now my idea for doing this would be that players can make some form of call to make an item or so their personal wargear that's always with them, and which they can be allowed to make custom modifications on for an RP purpose, would be that they need the required Renown for request the item and that they would take the Requisition Points gathered from these items as a penalty for what stuff they can bring along.

An example how this would work is this.

Brother Herathos is a Tactical Marine from the Ascendants Chapter and he starts with the normal Power Armour, Astartes Bolter with Fire Selector and one clip of Special Issue Ammunition. But after many missions and victories in the Emperor's name he gets Renown enough to take an Astartes Plasma Gun. If he requested that this was made his personal weaponry and the GM approved it he would have a -20 Requisition for all the coming missions as long as he has the Plasma Gun as a personal weaponry.

The exact stuff regarding how the GM should determine what and when a player should have a request accepted is something that I haven't come to any really good solution with yet.

So, do you think it could floot or that it stinks and is redundant?

Well there's a couple of things that add to or change your standard wargear, and really signiture wargear is what this is for.

But it is quite limiting as it is, what you said is pretty much a direct translation. You get to put your name on it and give it a new paint job in exchange for the lack of flexibility of having to take it every time.

I kind of suspected that it would be something like this. I didn't want to do something to fancy to risk to unbalance any rules or so.

I think what are trying to do is already covered in the book. If the player wishes he can take Sig Wargear as a talent from Rank 1. Or if the GM wishes, he can just give the player a Plasma Gun as permanent wargear if he feels its appropriate. It even says this in the armory chapter, near the beginning.
