Miskatonic Rush

By yvain2, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

Hi. New to the boards. Building a MU rush deck. Have 3 x Laboratory Assistant and 2 x Dr. Carson but feel need for a few more cheap characters to ensure good first turn/rush. What do people think of Hapless Grad Student and Medical Student. I know Dr. Carsons Treatment is a limited remedy but the risk of insanity may be worth those cheap early points. What are your experiences of playing these characters.

Also many of my preferred MU support cards are attachments so thinking Soothsayer an underrated card. Anyone use this character with success.

Finally, FFG listed a ST/MU deck recently with Visiting Author. That deck looked short of cheap characters and I wonder how often you will have a spare domain to take advantage of card ability.

A couple of ideas:

Medical Student is wonderful. Hapless Grad Student is difficult - mostly used as a defense against a "mill" deck (one that attempts to win the game by emptying your draw pile). I don't recommend him.

Anthropology Advisor is an excellent card for making your Investigators come out early and be more effective. Sometimes I will use Visiting Author only to bring out Anthropology Advisor on turn 2, which is basically giving me an extra resource on each domain through his cost reduction.

Chess Prodigy is a wonderful card, Laboratory Assistant, Anthropology Interns, Student Archaeologist, Professional Counselor are also good additions.

Oh, and Soothsayer is indeed a good card if you are going to use attachments!

Also, don't forget Binding - Miskatonic's best Event, I think.

Put together this deck.

I have tried to keep the focus on cheap characters and plenty of Investigation struggle multipliers. Mad Genius and Soothsayer to grab last couple of points mid-game. However, I notice that despite being MU there is a lack of skill in this faction. No one has more skill than cost which leaves deck open to mass destruction. Any ideas.
