Engineering/Invention only reserved to dwarfs?

By Folioman, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi again,

yes I think it's too restrictive,I believe it should be available to other races. I'm not expecting humans to build exo-frame,gyrocopter or nautilus, dwarfs remain the masters of tinking/invention/engineering,but without having the monopole. But which rules to adopt for non-dwarfs? Maybe by raising the difficulty,an easy task for a dwarf would be average for another races...

Any ideas? Personnaly I would love a "Blast Crossbow" like the one in the movie "Van Helsing",remember?

I agree, humans have their engineers as well, and they come up with a lot of inventions (such as the Steam Tank, Hochland Long Rifle, Repeater Handguns/Pistols, Hellstorm Rocket Batteries and other bizzar things).

At first glance the +1 difficulty might sounds like a good house rule. Human contraptions are often quite unsafe, so chaos stars on the roll could result in explosions right then or when using the invention (maybe giving it an unreliable rating).

i think a creer like the investigator could be a good hook for that, once this career is finished the character might have "investigated" enough in weaponry and other stuff to become an inventor himself. you can create your custom career with strange eons and just tinker a little with the atrributes, maybe make "dwarf engineering" "engineering" instead and let the player add his own inventions...

the idea with the +1 difficulty might not apply then, since the character is pratically trained for that. the unreliabilty should still be around 1 or 2 then...

very nice idea!
