New to the game, quick question...

By badhabit2, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

Most likely going after work to pick up a Revised Core Set. No local shops have the original. I bought Tannhauser last weekend over Dust Tactics (probably a knee jerk reaction because it has painted miniatures...I'm just not a fan of painting), but have decided before opening it, to return it in favor of DT. My question is as follows...in addition to the core game, what additional pieces should I purchase to make this game immediately playable, or at least more enjoyable, for four people?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would look at adding the following expansions to the game:

Command squads
Spec Ops
Medium Walkers

Get one of each for each faction, and I think you could make a 4 player game work reasonably well. I think with just the revised set on its own, there's not really enough there for each person to make a 4 person game that exciting.

Alternatively you could look around online for an original core set, but they're getting a lot harder to find these days and are getting more expensive too.

I'd also suggest just looking at what units are out there and grab what you think looks like fun.

Thanks for the reply.

This particular store didn't keep as much in stock as I was hoping. I picked up the Revised Core Set and the Axis and Ally Hero Packs (which is all they had).

I have since found another shop locally that appears to carry more FFG products.

I am new to DT as well and I have ordered the 2 Hero packs because the included Heroes are quite cool - at least that's what I think. If you really want to make use of the Heroes, you should get the Red Devils for the Allies and the Zombies for the Axis because Action Jackson (one of the allied Heroes) can only join the Red Devils while 2 of the Axis Heroes can only join the Zombies. Furthermore, the Red Devils bring some ranged combat power to the Allies that the units in the RCS lack while the Zombies are a cool melee squad.

In addition to what everybody has posted so far I would personally tack on the Grim Reapers for the Allies as it sounds like you'll be getting either 1 or 2 squads of Zombies soon enough for your new Axis heroes.

Operation Cerberus is also a great expansion both for the 3D buildings and scenarios that it comes with. The Chef and Angela are also alot of fun to add to your squads.

You'll own almost everything eventually... Trust me, I recently had to remove the plastic insides of my unit/expansion boxes and flatten them out as they were talking up half a closet. demonio.gif

What we ended up doing was adding a new unit for each side every couple games depending on the outcome of the last game since the origional release core set. Its alot of fun to see strategies change over time as something new is introduced. For the Heavy Walkers we had a "prototype" match where the Axis were trying to prevent the Allies from finish constructing it by turn 3.... But they did... It was painful. (I was the Axis, 20 dice rolled against my Armor 2 infantry squad by ONE heavy walker WITH sustained fire.... sorpresa.gif )

Sure wish FFG would just sell the dice seperatly. sad.gif
