Careers transition/beeing a Wizard and a Priest?

By Folioman, in WFRP Rules Questions

Hi,

first sorry if this top already exists, but I don't have the guts to serch all the forum.

Ok let's take a supposition. An human soldier completed his career, but no chance, war is over and there is no much job for an old soldier,so it turn himself into a bounty hunter. After he spents some month cheasing criminals, war is back! City is recruting in mass, and the soldier is more than welcome. Then he wants to change his career for Veteran. Can he do it as an old soldier,or must he do it as a bounty hunter?

And my other question, can you be a wizard and a priest? Because I haven't read so far you couldn't.

Thanks for answers

he will have to change from the bounty hunter to the veteran, get no dedication bonus and lose the career ability card of the bounty hunter. that will cost him as many advances as are different traits from the bounty hunter to the veteran...

it is not stated anywhere that you cannot be a priest and a wizard, but to me it is clear you can't. you are normally either born into this career or, if you chose it freely, you are aware that joining an order, no matter if magic or religious, is a lifetime comittment...

As per RAW, you have to do it from Bounty Hunter, and therefore matching the traits between Bounty Hunter and Veteran. But of course, if the GM and the players agree, anything can be changed.

Mechanically you are allowed to do it, but the background history and flavour of the Warhammer world that you will find in the role books like the player's guide, master's guide, Winds of Change, or Signs of Faith, strongly discourages this; but as far as I know there are no mechanical impediments for it.

actually, with dropping out of an order, you lose access to this order's "talent"card. and these cards enable you to cast spells/belssings of this particular order...so then you are practically a wizard who know alot of spells, but can't cast em anymore.

you can argue that as a GM with the character being "blocked" off his magic from the order themselves, so they prevent him from casting as soon as he leaves them

I don't think what you say are the rules as RAW. May be a house rule of your group? If I am not wrong, it is nowhere stated that you need the order talent to cast spells (players guide pg 116).

Notice that the same rules allow you to learn spells and cast spells from different orders (pg 33 of Wind of Magic).

i think the order talent already states something like "allows you to cast XX-Order spells". so that would mean that, whithout the order card you lost the ability to cast...it just the conclusion i got out of it

Thank you for your answers. Just like I thought, there's no rules in 3rd edition about my questions. In second edit,it was clear,No mix between Priest & Wizard, and you could use your olds careers to transit to another.
