National vs. Regional Events

He contacted me. I think there has been a misunderstanding between us. As I said on the French forums, foreigners are very welcome and may even win the event and the prizes but the title of "Champion de France" will be given to a French Citizen.

Since the (in my opinion) biggest prize, the paid travel to worlds, is reserved for the Champion of France, only French Citizens can compete for all the prizes (again, I am not being polemic, just making clear for other people wo would have traveled)

Hi,

Sorry to come back so late.

An update: The organizer (I used the email as indicated on the FFG site) welcomed me last week to participate in the regional. I believe (but might be mistaken) that this is due to the your protest and many thanks also for FFG putting pressure on him. Many thanks! The biggest "discrimination" issue is, hence, resolved.

I do not think that I was earlier mistaken about the information about the email (the organizer was very clear on this). However, the content and the tone of the emails just changed and I am happy for that. (Unfortunately, everything happened a bit late…)

I was also given the following information about the French regional:

1) 3 persons qualify for the world championship

2) edge pays only the flight and hotel for the best French player among the top five.

3) only the best French player gets the title "French champion"

I still think that 3) is not Ok, since this is not, as far as I know, usual in other tourneys (also other card games).

For 2). I guess it is to a certain degree Ok, since edge finances the prize and has to have some say. Why it is important for them to send a French player I cannot say (it also does not seem to follow the usual rules of prizes, as far as I can tell).

For 2) It can create the following strange hypothetical case: Imagine that the best French player is fifth (if it is very unlikely, why else do they use this rule?). Then, I guess only the first two non-French players go to the final and the fifth French player. (Otherwise paying the cost do not make sense). So, the third non-French player had bad luck…

Best,

Do they ? I was under the impression it was FFG financing the ticket.

Even if it's Edge, it's uncommon for a prize giver to decide to whom it must go. When I contribute to a charity, I'm not giving my conditions to whom homeless my money must go.

The first three are qualified ? That's new to me. Or is it one per game (CoC, W:I, aGoT) ?

Ok, all I want to know is…

If say… I, a US citizen, travel to any of the non-North American national championships…

1. Would I be allowed to play?

2. If I would win would I be granted a flight prize?

3. If I would win would I get to design a card?

4. What if I won a different regional / national championship does that change any of the previous answers?

Also,

4. We have to qaulify for worlds? Only the top 3 finishers qualify? I couldn't of read that right.

5. If yes to 4, what are the different ways one qualifies for worlds? I missed that part announcement. I assumed worlds was open to everyone, but you simply got a bye if you won a national? regional? championship.

I got lost in the legalities. :(

I'm not saying that any of this will happen, I would like it too ;) , just trying to get caught up lol.

You assumed correctly. There's a bit of misinformation in this thread, so I would take whatever is posted here with a grain of salt. The World Championship is open to everyone. Winners of a regional championship receive free entry and a first round bye. FFG has stated nothing about top 3 qualifiers, etc…

And here's the quote:

"Each of these tournaments is open to the general public. Regional champions for each game win free entry for the weekend as well as a first round bye."

Also, top winners from each LCG at the North American Championship at GenCon will get to design a card, as well as receive free entry in the World Championship and a first round bye. The same goes for the top winner at the annual Castle Stahleck tournament in Europe.

It does not say whether you are limited to winning only one of these events, or if you win multiple tournaments, you can design more than one card.
