Highlander

By Ral Zarek, in CoC General Discussion

Is there a format or support for a variant for Highlander (i.e. single copy of a given card) games?

Does anyone have their own Highlander adaptation of CoC LCG?

If not, is there any reason why?

We've given it a go around here - can be fun.

Do you use a larger deck size to compensate for resourcing issues?

No - still have the minimum of 50, and I try to keep at 50 so that I don't have "wasted" cards in the deck.

1) Officially, no. Or sorta. The core set comes with one of any single card.

2) Nope. None are needed. Just use a single copy of any card as you normally would for highlander.

3) See point 2.

Highlander is my preferred way to play CoC. It is far more thematic and the resourcing choices are much more agonizing because of the fundamentals of the format. It is now a game where you are not trying to pull off the occasional combos but are now playing a game where theme now shines.

Games can be a bit longer though because of the choices being made though as when you only have one of each card the choices become more difficult.

You will need a lot of cards though as the card pool for the game has just grown large enough to really give good deck building choices for such a format in a 50 card deck. Nothing stopping you from going higher of course, but 50 is still the recommended max and mandatory minimum.
