Inn of the Kneeling Man & Flea Bottom

By mathlete, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Flea Bottom: "No attachments. Marshalling: Kneel Flea Bottom to lower the cost of the next character you play this phase by 2. That character comes into play knelt."

Inn of the Kneeling Man: "Response: After a character with STR 2 or lower is knelt, kneel The Inn of the Kneeling Man to stand that character. Use this effect only if it is Summer or Winter. (Limit once per phase.)" If I put a 2-STR character into play knelt with Flea Bottom (and it is Summer or Winter) can I use the Inn of the Kneeling Man to stand that character once it enters play?

I miss the old AGOT, but I'm loving the LCG format! I hope to see First Snow again!

No. Inn of the Kneeling Man only works after a character is "knelt." "Knelt" means that it changed status from standing to kneeling. Flea Bottom puts the card into play already kneeling. Since it was never standing to begin with, it wasn't "knelt," so you don't get to trigger the Response.

Look at it this way: if the character coming into play knelt counts as "after a character is knelt," wouldn't Brothel Guard coming into play standing count as "after Brothel Guard stands," allowing you to trigger its ability immediately after playing it? With that example in mind, it's pretty clear that playing a character in the standing position does not count as standing the character, so there is no reason to think playing a character in the kneeling position counts as kneeling the character.

Thanks again Kevin! Very clearly explained!
