Will there be a Free RPG Day booklet or is it too soon? Is this out at GenCon? Will it be closer to Dark Heresy or RT or DW or what?
GenCon/Free RPG Day
Lots of questions at once.
I think there are some logical inferences one can make based upon past events.
Did Deathwatch get a Free RPG Day booklet and a Gen-Con release? Yes.
Did Black Crusade get a Free RPG Day booklet and a Gen-Con release? Also yes.
Is Only War listed as having a third-quarter release date? Yes to that as well.
Therefore, is it likely that Only War would get a Free RPG Day booklet and then a Gen-Con Release? I’d say that that would make the most sense. I don’t know for certain of course – this is just speculation – but an educated guess would say yes.
BYE
I hope so! This will be my first year to attend Gencon and I was wondering about this myself. If it will be there I will certainly be buying it early.
Didn't DH and RT also get freeday booklets? I think i ran the RT freebie, looting a derelict ship with corpses animated by a Yu'Vath artifact empowered by a Navigator acting as a Warp conduit? Heck, can't we download all those freebies right here on the FFG site?
The 40k RPG line have a dependable track record, and I'm not saying they run like book printing factory in all respects, but I have much faith inthem following their pattern. And in this case I'm very excited to see the freebie game at my friendly local gaming store.
Well apparently the answer to your question just popped up:

Ooooh, I can't wait. Looks like we have a Catachan, a commissar or officer of some kind, and a vehicle pilot in a sentinel walker. Plus a fourth guy I can't figure out. Wonder goes down in a planet with a fourteen hour day...
What interests me the most is the Ogryn next to the commissar. I'll call him Bob and make him believe it's he's birthday every day.

Either it is an extremely short Ogryn, an incredibly tall Commissar, the commissar is standing on a big tree root, or the Ogryn is in a hole.
My guess is that it is just a roided up heavy weapons guy.
Then again it could be that the artist just doesn't know how big Ogryns are supposed to be.

The commissar is further behind the ogryn at a higher elevation due to the perspective, and any IG fan should be able to recognize a Ripper gun and standard ogryn issue armor. It also makes sense sicne Catachans are known for fielding ogryns. Seeing that the authors probably know details like that is boosting my excitement for Only War.
The fact that Catachans HATE commissars should also make that in interesting adventure. that sentinel might "accidentally" slip and crush the commissar... oops.
It also seems I picked the perfect user name back when I created this account for the Dark Heresy forums.

You are correct, it is an Ogryn. If I had bothered to look at the full size image I would have seen that.
I still maintain that either the Ogryn is standing in a hole or the Commissar is standing on a crate.
So perhaps we are getting:
* A scout
* An Ogryn
* A Driver Class
So with rattling that would make 12...

Oh I imagine it's going to be an "interesting" moment when the four look at each other and discover they're the last Imperials left on the planet... forced to fight through whatever it was they were fighting on the planet to get aboard the last dropship. A dropship abandoned on an airfield that was taken over by the enemy at daybreak.

I'm getting excited just thinking about the 80's action movie RP opportunities, 'I don't like you, and you don't like me', 'Around here we do things by the Book (on pain of death)'.
Quotes from the movie Predator would be perfect "Get to the drophip!" or "If it bleeds we can kill it".
Hey guys, forgive me but I've only been playing 40k RPGs since last September (currently running Deathwatch), so I'm unfamiliar with the GenCon/Free RPG Day thing and I have a question about the release schedule for OW:
Does this mean there are two different release dates; one for the booklet and one for the RPG? If so, does the booklet contain a compressed version of the rules that allows a group to play the "Eleventh Hour" mission?
Thanks, cheers all!
The booklet will contain a compressed 'preview' of the rules for the final book. Usually they're the same rules you'll find in the core book, but it's possible they'll change something between Free RPG Day release and the core book release. Free RPG Day is June 16th this year, release won't be 'til GenCon, then a month or so after GenCon.
+++++And when faced with time-consuming questions of duty, honour, and compassion, will you remain true to your principles, or abandon them in a moment of self-serving desperation?+++++
In what kind of tree hugging, tofu eating, yoghurt knitting, hippy version of 40k is compassion considered a virtue?

Leave your buddy behind to slowly die, drag him along (and slow you down) or be compassionnate and give him the Emperor's grace?

Among squadmates, of course. Your sergeant, CO and neighborhood commissar will be as ruthless as needed, no need to kill each other unless necessary.
