Arts skills in Warhammer?

By Folioman, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hi everybody, first sorry if I ever doubletopic and for poor english (I'm french).

It might seem trivial, but where are all the arts in this 3rd edition,I mean what skill are used to cover arts like playing music,singing,painting,acting,joking... I guess we can use ingame skills like charm (for singing),coordination (for playing music) and I don't think we need carrers like performer or minstrel to know how to sing or to play an instrument, but do we need a specialisation for it? if yes can we have this specialisation without been trained in the skill.

Ok if anybody have rules/ideas,I'll be very happy to read them.

Thanks in advance

My thoughts:

  • Tradecraft is useful for painting/sculpting and similar skills.
  • Jokes are definitly charm.
  • Acting might be Guile (pretending to be someone else convincingly) or Charm.
  • For singing I use Folk Lore (to know the melodies and words to common songs) or just Charm to perform the songs.
  • For music I use Coordination.

This is how I do it and I have a minstrel in the group. Anyone in the group can attempt to sing using folk lore/charm or act using guile/charm if they want to. No specialization needed. Anyone can also attempt to play the lute, but if you're not used to playing instruments I will increase the difficulty of the check by 1.

You could aslo create a couple of advanced skills like:

  • Music (int).
  • Singing (fel).

And you could even let the players purchase those new skills at reduced costs.

Thanks for your ideas!

Isn't there a Performer, Minstrel or Court Jester career in the Lure of Power supplement?

If you knew what skills they have you could use that as a basis

Performer and Minstrel share the same Career Skills:

Charm, Coordination, Discipline, Folklore, Intuition

The game design focuses less on your mechanical skill with a lute and more on what you are actually attempting to accomplish by playing for someone. If you are playing to impress, you are utilizing Charm; to distract them, you are utilizing Guile; to display mechanical skill, you are utilizing Coordination; to tell a story, you are utilizing Folklore.

Something like a Charm specialization of (Lute) or (Painting) would be a very viable way of representing a musician or artist, respectively.
