Spells casting in arkham horror

By zubu2, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

First of all - hello to all fans of arkham horror :)

I would greatly appreciate your help regarding spells in arkham - "cast and exhaust" a spell - does it mean that after i have used / tried to use a particular spell, I have to get rid of it (i.e. does the investigator "spend" it and loose it, just like a spent clue token) or do I keep it to be able to use it during following turns, just like I keep my common / unique items?

Cast and exhaust, you keep but won't be able to cast it until next upkeep.

Cast and discard, if you (successfully, I think) cast it, you won't keep it. And I think that if you do not pass the Spell check, you exhaust it (but not sure that last part).

I think so. ALL spells are cast and exhaust—some get discarded if you succeed.

yeah, I thought that cast and exhaust means I can keep it without using it until next round. I would also think that spell gets exhausted also when I fail a spell check.

next question - what is an area in arkham? is it 1 particular location or is it a street with surrounding locations - for example in heal spell u roll dies to gain stamina - either u or another investigator in "the same area" and hence my question re the definition of an area in AH.

That's a good question. Sadly, people at FFG have been, over the years, kinda lazy about the wording of some cards. Generally speaking, an "area" is a location or a street area. In your example, you can heal an investigator who is in the same location or street you are in

Plague of Locusts? Or did they fix that in Revised, memory is hazy on that.

Certainly used to be able to multi-cast that one.

That was a mistake. It was always meant to be cast to exhaust.
