The general consensus from comments made by people in various other threads seems to be that there will not be organized play for this LCG and I tend to agree given it has been a year now and nothing formal announced by FFG, as well as complexity in administering tournament play and enforcing rules for a cooperative game where there is no direct competitor to enforce the rules. That being said, if there ever were tournament play for this I'm curious how it might be organized - this is the first CCG/LCG I've played so I'm not at all familiar with how other tournaments are run. Below are some questions I have:
1. How would rules be enforced?
I think the only practical way to do this would be to pair up teams and have them compete head-to-head with the winner advancing to the next round. One team would watch the other team play to enforce the rules and then they would switch. Each team plays a certain number of games and the team with the lowest score advances. The down side of this is that 50% of your time would be spent watching other people play, although I guess if you were competing head-to- head against them it would be somewhat interesting to watch them play as they try to beat your score.
2. Would teams play against the same scenario the whole tournament or would there be multiple scenarios?
If multiple scenarios, assuming it ran as described above would a team play different scenarios against the same opponent in the same round or would the scenarios change from round to round?
3. Would you have to construct your deck at the beginning of the tournament and not alter it during the tournament or would you be allowed to change it during the tournament?
If it ran as I described in point 1 above I think you'd need to at least not alter it during the round otherwise you could see how your opponent constructed their deck(s) and copy their deck construction strategy.
4. Would you be able to know the scenario to play against prior to constructing your deck or would you have to construct your deck blind?
This would be interesting both ways as there is a certain strategy with both approaches, although I think more luck constructing blind unless you had to play against multiple different scenarios.
5. Would you enter as a team or as an individual and then be paired up with random team mates?
I think you would probably enter as a team, with people entering as individuals being able to form a team with other individuals that entered.
6. How would "best" score be determined?
Single lowest score after x number of attempts?
Some formula similar to the one juicebox is using for his online living tournaments?
Best x out of y where teams play head to head a set number of games with the lowest score in each individual round getting the win and first team to 3 wins advances to next round?
Some other method?
7. Any other interesting parameters to consider?
