Chilean First Free Deck League Championship Final Report

By Francisco G., in 1. AGoT General Discussion

CONTEXT:

A month length league.

5 people participated (no more players that i know of in Chile).

Only Melee (3, 4, & 5 people tables). Deck Modifications are permited for the surprise effect.

The 3 Best rankings went to a final table celebrated on Monday where we first saw the New Season Opener.

Ranking System: Ratio. (Opp Defeated/Opp Challeged)......this means in a melee of 4p the winners gets 3 opp defeated and 3 opp challenged. We made this way in case someone couldn't go to the meets. (it needs some adjudgements for probability issues but it was ok)

Actual Ranking after 4 games of 5, 4 of 4, and 2 of 3.......MAX Opp Challenged 26. (Ratios are aprox since they are from memory)

1st: Francisco (Decks used: Bara KoHH; Bara KoTR & Martell KoTHH) // Ratio 0.86

2nd: Crom (Lanni KoTR; Lanni PBTT) // Ratio 0.56

3rd: Guso (Stark No Agenda; Stark SoW) // Ratio 0.40

4th: Tito (Stark KotHH) // Ratio 0.31

5th: Juan (Targ KoTHH; Targ KoTR; Targ HttThrone) // Ratio 0.25

Final table:

Francisco G. // Bara KoTR

CROM // Lanni TbtT

Guso // Stark Siege

I was afraid of the kill effects and claim 2 from Stark so i took almost always (2turns) the title that he supported and when i won the initiative on turn 3 I made him go first dealing him the gold title (he was resource tight since some pre game modifications). Lanni got to 11 or 12 in the second turn when he got to go first making I think 3 or 4 intrigue challenges. In the same turn the Siege deck and me were stalled at only 6.

The "Pro-Play" of the game was, while having King Renly in play on the second turn marshalling and having counted 5g, I played Cressen and tryed to discard a condition gold att of a Lanni Location while he had the Iron Throne out and acted like i forgot about that....of cource he cancelled and I proceeded to drop Salhador for 3g, discarded the iron throne, droped Marya, standed Salha and then use him to discard Lannisport....which would have won him the game since he had the gold to use it 3/4 times.

I won on the 3rd turn after a crazy rally of the siege deck up to 13/14 power. In my turn i had the knight that gives Bara Lords Stealth and 3 Lords with Renown and two chars with Vigilant, Smugglers Cove for the extra stealth, Masey Hook and Marya to stand chars, So i then proceeded to attack the over extended Stark for the win.

Hope you liked the report.....is in no way a highly competitive meta, but it was fun.

Glad to hear the game is growing in other parts of the world, and thanks for the report! My big question would be as to why there are so many Knights of the Hollow Hill decks (I assume that's what KotHH is referring to). In my personal experience it's best used out of one or two houses. Any particular reason it seems to be so popular?

Mmm, I can't really speak for the rest, but my guesses are this:

1.- We are a young meta, we only started last year. And we are still experimenting builds. Also we share cards, so some cards are only available in 3 copies.

2.- There are a couple of very control oriented players, even in melee, that don't gather power very quickly so recover from the setup is not that hard if you play games to plot 6 or 7.

3.- We play mostly melee, and as any group of friends that know each other, form some nasty alliances (like lanni kneel + martel icon removal) just for fun.

Now, in my particular case, i use it pretty much like everyone else in martel, some heavy renown characters that cost to much so the extra 2 gold don't hurt. And red vengeance. I also use it with my bara asshai, a slow but very effective build that uses core set Mel and a lot of shadows, so the gold is welcome. (the limited gold hurts me cause i carry the reduce shadow and seat of power)

Another thing. Note that there was no KoTHH deck in the final 3 table, where we al went for the rush. (bara KotR, lanni PbtT, stark siege). So i think that intensive weeks of melee left some learning. Hope we are ready for agoust!!
