written and bound?

By mmmart, in CoC General Discussion

i got my copy today and i'm assuming at least SOME of you out there did too...

it's a pretty big contrast for me from ANYTHING magic being released. there would be reviews and reviews of reviews and spoilers and then full lists and on and on and we'd all know quite a bit about the new cards long before they hit the streets.

by contrast, i'd seen a few of the cards in articles on the main ffg pages, but other than that, nothing... are CoC'ers a secretive bunch waiting to spring new deck twists at regionals or will the articles and discussions start flowing in a few days once everybody's back at work again?

it's hard for me to form too much of an opinion about cards yet, being so new to the game, but there do seem to be a few interesting things in there. the syndicate guy who pumps all criminals, the 2 serpent recursion cards, the world champion fetcher and the new miskatonic and silver twilighters too.

Give us the spoiler list!

The CoC crowd is less ebulient than the Magic crowd in this regard. I suppose there is some of the "don't spoil my Regionals deck!", but just in general I have not seen the kind of card analysis on these forums that you get in the bigger games.

It may in part be due to the smaller number of players, and it may in part be due to the older average age of the players (around here the average age is probably around 35). I don't know.

But, perhaps you could be a change agent and get us started on such conversations?

The Serpent recursion ability is indeed an interesting thing. With 6 Serpents now (including Uroborus), Sibilant cry looks pretty compelling. And Uroborus itself is pretty amazing - works well with Sacrificial Offerings, for example.

Not that Cthulhu needed bolstering - 2 of the top 4 decks at Worlds last year were Cthulhu, and that was before Khopesh and the new Serpent dealy.

Snow Graves looks more and more like a must-have in every deck, and Cthuilhu looks like it must be prepared to thaw the Snow Graves.

I was very impressed with the Agency recommittal card, as well as the Syndicate death avoidance card. Of course, the first batch of Relic Hunters were okay as well, but nothing worth writing home about until we get a few more relics. I'm excited about this!

On a side note, my wife is a huge Cthulhu proponent, and she can't stand the Serpents. She was not happy with this pack in that regard. Her favorite card out of this pack is Eat Her Young, because it is amazing. Shub/Misk deck coming soon! Yay Itinerant Scholar!

hey guys! can anyone give the list of cards?pls...

Thanks for the thoughtful response Chris. I'll do my best to be an active forumer, maybe someday I'll even be able to offer reasonable tips on cards and strategies... At the moment though, I'm just net decking and trying to get a feel for the plays, the meta, etc. I can definitely tell the player base is a more mature one. That was one of the things I didn't like so much about MtG — I went to a local tournament and it was pretty well filled to bursting with stinking, mouth breathing young dudes. I have always liked the card interactions in MtG and the voluminous strategy discussions, but the social interactions left oh so much to be desired.

Whats the deal with posting spoilers btw? Does FFG frown on that sort of thing? Can/should I post phone pictures I took of each card in the new AP too share with the general audience? Text-only perhaps?

There have never been complaints about spoilers that I know of. I think FFG is fine with it.

The demand is a bit different because of the Living Card Game format - you get all of the cards in one pack for $15, so the demand for spoilers isn't that great. If you look around you will see a few Asylum Packs that have been listed - usually just in text format (for convenience, I would guess).

Sanya though (posted above), lives in Belarus, so he might not see the cards for some time.

I was chatting with my son about the lack of strategy articles/netdecks. We figured that the reasons are many-fold, including a relatively small competitive environment, which consists mainly of the Regionals and then the Championships. The game is usually played for fun rather than tournament.

Plus in a game like MtG you have many blogs and other writers about the subject, so there are few "secrets" about deck builds.

'Written And Bound" hasn't been added yet, and I actually haven't received a note yet that it's available, either.

Anyway, even if spoilers are posted here, there's rarely a long discussion, except for exceptional cards, obviously gui%C3%B1o.gif

Personally, if I get a pack and there aren't spoilers up yet I try to add them. But, I just got back in town from a trip and haven't had a chance to visit the game store yet - which may or may not even have them yet.

If I manage to get one I'll post, otherwise anyone else with a pack already can feel free to throw us all a bone :)
