First game, playing solo questions

Hi!

I am about half way through my first game (playing it solo to learn before teaching to the wife). I am playing 2 investigators (the PI and Jenny).

I have a couple “beginner” questions:

-can you place a clue on a location with an open gate (I do not think so)

-After you come back from exploring a gate, do you roll to close the gate in the current turns Encounter phase, or is it in the next turn’s Encounter phase?

-Can you use Bullwhip’s ability in the same combat it is adding is bonus to?

-When fighting a monster if you go insane, does the combat end or is there still combat?

-do monsters move the turn they are brought into play

-are the hospital and the asylum really the only 2 place to heal and regain SAN? (seems like I spent a lot of time going back and fourth.

I know there are a couple more, but that will get me started.

I would have to say I am getting my ass kicked. I am about to close and seal my 2nd gate, but there are four more open, the terror level is 1, and the outskirts has just started getting monsters. I feel paniced!:>)))) but in a good way

I am having a great time. It theme is really cool, and I really like the game so far.

- You're right, you don't place any clue tokens on open gates.

- Well, you move back from the portal in the movement phase, and add an explored marker, and you try to close the gate during the arkham encounter phase, so you must be able to try to close it the same round you leave the other world.

- I'd say yes, but not completely sure about this one. (My logic is that you've already added the dice to the dicepool, and it doesn't say that it can't be exhausted if it's being used in the battle.)

- Combat ends, read up on the "insane" rules, it states that he *immediatly* discards items and moves to the asylum.

- Yep, in general they move the same turn, check out the mythos phase rules, it states in which order you resolve cards: First open any gate, and spawn any monsters / do the monster surge, then place clue token, *then* move monsters... and lastly follow the special ability, so the exception is if the special ability spawns monsters, then those monsters won't move in the same turn.

- There's cards that can give you sanity and stamina at other places, the diner can give you health for example, but in general that's the two locations. (That I know of anyway?) :) - Oh! And the heal spell

And glad you enjoy the game! Picked it up fairly recently and played two full and two half games so far, and everyone has had a blast... we won the two full games :D

If you're playing as a single investigator I bet it's hard to find enough time to do everything, only tried it with 4 investigators so far.

I agree with most everything above.

Two clarifications. You may use the Bullwhip special ability at any time (as long as it hasn't been exhausted). That means when you have it equipped and even when you don't.

Monsters generally move the turn they are spawned if they come ouyt of an open gate and their symbol matches the symbol on the card. But as Sinuouser pointed out, follow the steps which is from the bottom up.
