Where oh where are you, Ogryns?

By KnightErrantJR, in Rogue Trader

I believe some of the other 40K RPGs have Ogryn profiles in them, and I have an NPC Ogryn in my Rogue Trader game I was looking to stat, instead of just reskinning other Big Things. Could someone point me in the direction of some honest to goodness Ogryn stats?

Ogryn Beast Keepers are to be found in Disciples of the Dark Gods for Dark Heresy. These examples are, however, drugged and abused brutes rather than the comparatively bright individuals that might be found elsewhere.

In other words, I'd peg them at low 20s for Int and Fel rather than in the teens. The points to remember are, in any case, Unnatural Strength and Toughness x2 and Hulking Size.

There are also stats for Ogryns in Deathwatch: Achilus Assault but they are like in DotDG = slaves to Chaos. Probably Dark Heresy: Only War will bring us real loyalist Ogryns that we all like. One more thing that I would change is giving them enormous size because they are as big as Tyranid Warriors etc.

I'd argue at hulking still. They're a bit bigger than marines, but not much bigger than marines in terminator armour and still not up to 'nid warrior size.

I believe there are Ogryn stats in N0_1 H3r3's "Something Other Than Human" floating around t'internet . Not official, but sieur Dowdell is one of the freelancers sometimes used for stuff, and tends to produce some quality.

Thanks for all of the replies everyone.

I thought that some Deathwatch book had Ogryn, given that our kill team (when I was on the other side of the screen) saw our assault marine brutally beaten by some of them . . . ;)

Alasseo, those resources are great, thank you for posting them!

So, how's this, do you think?

Brutish:
Whilst not the drooling imbeciles some may think them, Ogryns are not the most cerebral or cultured of beings. They suffer a -10 penalty to Interaction Skill Tests made in formal surroundings and a -10 penalty to all tests relying on technical or academic knowledge (at the GM’s discretion, but will generally include all Tech-use and most Scholastic or Forbidden Knowledge skills).

Ogryn Bone ‘Ead Sergeant
S -5; T -5; Int +5; WP +5; Fel +5
Skills: Command (Fel); Common Lore (Imperial Creed, Imperial Guard, War) (Int)

That looks great. The stats were great, but I didn't really want to stat the Ogryn out as a PC, since he was more or less "adopted" by the crew, and not meant to be a major NPC. Really much appreciated.

An Ogrynn would have a low BS, INt, WP and Fel. However, I would give them Unnatural Strength and Unnatural Toughness and access to quite a lot of hitpoints. Give him a heavy weapon say a stubber that he fires onehanded ofcourse in Rambo style, a big chainsword and an assortment of mismatched armor. Make sure that he is hulking (easier to hit but runs faster) and of course claustrophobic.

But yes, I too wish for official stats for them

Low-20s Int is too high in my opinion. The Ashleen Thugs in the Dark Heresy core book adventure have an Int of 18, and Ogryns are depicted as being of subhuman intelligence, not low human intelligence.
