I had a problem, I was in Other World, had 2 encounters and after Mythos phase I was going back in Arkham to close the gate but!
During the Mythos phase that lokacion had bin close so no1 can enter for 1 turn. What to do:
1. My investigator goes to lost in space and time (there is no oder gate in Arkham with the same destination) or
2. Goes through gate and stay on it (so he can close it during encounter phase)
3. Goes through gate and continue to the street
A gate replace a location. So you're gate is still there, you can come back and close/seal the gate. But, when the gate disappear, the closed location effect take place and then you're investigator goes to the streets.

Yeah, your point of view actually is the correct way for playing this :-) You return to Arkham on the gate but, as soon as you close / seal it, you're forced to move to the street
