Salamander Successors

By Gurkhal, in Deathwatch

I've got a short question regarding the fluff. Unlike the Space Wolves I haven't read any great article damning any and all creation of Space Wolf successor Chapters but nothing is said about the Salamanders, even while the chance of making a Salamander successor is as slim as making a Space Wolf successor when rolling in Rites of Battle.

My questions, to the lore-masters on the forum, is if there is any fluff-wise problem with making a Salamander successor Chapter similar to the problem of making a Space Wolf successor? Or is it just so that there arn't alot of Salamander Chapters around in general.

Officially there are no Salamander successors. This is due to the fact that the Istvaan Massacre reduced the Salamander Legion's numbers quite greatly. They barely had enough men left to constitute a smaller chapter. However, one or two other chapters (Black Dragons & Storm Giants) from subsequent foundings are similar enough to the Salamanders in physique, heraldry, and combat doctrine that they are rumored to be Salamader successors.

Thanks for the clearup. I was kind of thinking that maybe it was just the case of having no Marines left to found any Second Founding Chapters but afterwards there would've been oppertunity to use the Salamander geneseed to found new Chapters. I'll see what ways I can work around it, and maybe make a thread about it was well, but hopefully it will come out good. Thanks!
