I have a question about this card. In a game I played with my wife last nite, I played the plot "Threat from the North". It says that all charcters get -1 str and are discarded from play if their str is 0. My wife on her marshalling phase played Jojen Reed. I told her that Jojen is dead now, she argued that it shouldn't take effect because she played him after my plot took effect. I feel like I know the answer but would like some backup.
Threat from the North
You are almost right -- Jojen is DISCARDED , not DEAD . Remember there are two places to go: Discard Pile and Dead Pile.
Your plot's effect is continuing/constant as long as it is revealed, not just one time (otherwise it would say " When revealed , all characters get -1 STR), so it affects Jojen when he is played.
thanks, sorry for the misspeak.
Note that while the -1 STR modifier is constant, the discard effect is a passive. So it is possible to save your character if the save effect removes them from the terminal effect (by using a save that also raises their STR for instance)

Except for the whole "Cannot be saved" part of Threat from the North...
Right, reading the card is usefull
