The North agendas

By Khudzlin, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

They read: "You may run any number of The North agendas with Night's Watch/Wildling in their text."

Taken literally, it seems to mean you can run multiple copies of any of them, because it doesn't specify "distinct". Since the rules say you may only run 1 agenda, all bets are off about a card count limit.

Actually you'll notice that the North agendas have the Unique Flag next to their names. So I don't think that's true. I guess you could dupe your agenda? lol

Score one for Staton. Unique is unique, after all.

Although, come to think of it, this brings up a really interesting problem. The rules of unique really only have meaning when you are talking about cards that are in-play. It's not like copies of unique cards dupe each other when they are not in play (eg, that copy of Theon you just drew doesn't dupe the one you already had in your hand). And Agendas are not in play, so technically, you can't dupe your Agenda.

So does that mean you COULD use two copies of the same The North Agenda since they are not in play? And if you did, would the effects be counted twice? The question has deeper implications, you know. Say I get two copies of the "Where Loyalty Lies" Theon into my dead pile: do opponents lose two cards at the beginning of dominance, one for each copy of the unique card?

I think it's pretty clear that the unique flag on the Agendas is supposed to indicate that you can only use each one just once, but if you're going to be a real stickler and literalist about the rules of unique, the fact that Agendas are not in play cause some interesting problems.

Hey that's a good question on Theon. What happens if you DO have two in your dead pile? I'd assume it'd work twice, right? Just like if I had two copies of The Bastard of Bolton in my hand when a card changed control, I could put both into play, right?

Now I have a dastardly idea to make a Greyjoy mill deck with Visenya's Hill out-of-house. It might be terrible.

I don't think there is much argument that two Theons in your dead pile results in 2 cards discarded. The thing is, the "two copies of Theon in the dead pile working independently" conclusion argues for two copies of the same The North agenda on the House card working independently.

Not sure it's worth it, really. The extra 2 power for the doubled benefits would be (mostly) too expensive for my tastes. Stacking 7 copies of The Last Giants on my plot card to play The Wildling Hoard for free doesn't seem to be worth 29 power to win the game, even if the Army is 15 STR.

Worth it? No. Hilarious? Quite!

I didn't notice the unique flag, actually. But as you said, it changes nothing, because the rules for unique cards are only about playing them or putting them into play.

As for applications, I was thinking of the Night's Watch agendas at first, to resist icon removal. Come to think of it, the Wildling ones are probably more interesting, especially The Last Giants (Blood of the First Men to a lesser extent).

Resisting icon removal for an extra 2 power per icon to win the game? Not sure I'd go for it.

Note that the unique flag is a pretty clear indication that most TOs will rule "one per." If you plan on taking that deck to an organized tourney, I'd suggest checking with the TO. It isn't too hard to stretch the basic Agenda rules to interpret the unique The North agendas' "any number" text as "by title."

Haha, I havent even made the deck. I just went "wait a minute, they don't say distinct or whatever".
