Can you tell I'm a newbie?
What is a meta? I really don't know.
I have taken it to mean local flavor of play style. Some people in Area A might love control decks, in Area B its Aggro/Rush. Basically, what are people playing in your play group?

In my understanding, it's a bit more than that. When you play against certain players in a local area, you develop strategies against each other. Some decks develop within this circle. For example, some metas may not play Valar, and because of that attachments are much more viable. (This is discussed btw in the n00b-friendly podcast, 2 Guys, 1 Throne - on iTunes - you should check it out.) Another example, your friend plays a lot of GJ and loves their attachments, so you start to play Targ with a lot of attachement hate, so because of that your friend stops playing attachments and more locations, saves, and cancel events to counter Targ burn, so you switch to Lanni to have more intrigue to discard all those annoying cancel events, etc. It's like a dance or a conversation that happens at a local and on a larger level. Meta, then, is short for meta-game - what is happening beyond the cards that are on the table, what cards people choose to put in their decks and why, who is playing which house. Wheels within wheels.

Too newbie for a play group. Thanks to both for your replies.
