Red Vengeance Question

By illrage, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I played as Martell, a Friend of mine as Stark.

He attacked me with military and I didn't defend. When the challenge resolved, I played red vengeance and named him the new target to fullfill the claim value.

So in my opinion he would be both, winner and loser of the challange, because he is the new defender. He said, I still lost the challenge. Does he get a Power Icon for undefended, because i did not defend? If i really lost the challenge, can i trigger the abillity of Areo Hotah?

A Side question: Is Deadly, or stealth a character abillity, so the red Viper would be immune to that? Or are character abillities just keywords like: Response: Challenges: and so on...?

Hello to you!

Your friend is not actually the loser of the challenge for anything other than fulfilling the claim. He is still technically the winner and you are still technically the loser of the challenge for triggering responses that require those conditions. Therefore, he can still trigger Areo Hotah if he lost the challenge by 4 or more STR. You may still trigger responses, like, Make an Example for instance.

Deadly, Stealth, Infamy, Intimidate, Joust, Melee, Stalwart, Ambush, Vigilant, Vengeful, any immunities and any other keyword are NOT character abilities. They are simply keywords and are specifically referenced as keywords on cards that can manipulate them. Therefore The Red Viper is not immune to those. Anything that refers to a character ability is referring to any text below Traits and Keywords on a text box on a character except for flavor text(which is usually a quote from the book in Italics or something like that).

Question: Where are you basing that Keywords are not part of the character abilities and thus not affected by character immunities such as in the red viper card? As far as I can see, looking at the Game rules, page 4-5 and pg 20, 4-5 references the layout of the card and keywords are in the Rules text section and not under Traits. On page 20, it states, keywords appear at the top of the rules text.... by this note, I would argue that character immunity bypasses this and makes the Red Viper Immune to Deadly, say as an example. I also dont see anything in the FAQ or Errata that speaks otherwise. If I have overlooked something, point me in the right direction as I have used this example above in our friendly matches with my local playing group.

Thanks

From the FAQs:

(3.7) Card Abilities
"Card abilities" (i.e. "Character ability," "Location ability," or "Attachment ability") refers to anything in a card's text box, except for traits, keywords, and flavor text. "Card abilities" also refers to any abilities (again, keywords and traits are excluded) gained by card effects.

Which means "Character Abilities" are essentially all the text below where the Keywords would be.

The Red Viper can still die from Deadly.

That's what I was looking for. Just overlooked it in the FAQ. Thanks
