RTL - Gateways

By StarBurn, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

simple question, why so many?! ...I didn't pull the cardboard pieces out yet, just read the rules and it says there are 5 different colored gateways.

I'm guessing you draw all 3 dungeon levels at once, and build them on the map and then put the gateways in there respective places ?!

if so can monsters travel trough them ? and can you go back ?! (it says you go trough them in sequence)

this popped up recently on the forum too, if I remember corectly...

The gateways come in two varieties- the green "end of level" variety, and the other colors which allow travel in ways specific to the quest, though usually bi-directional portaling is allowed.

There are so many of the others because they made quite a few different shapes of halls that had the portals attached to them.

I just cant find any in the dungeon builds....

They are used in the Beastman Lord and Titan's keeps.

I am considering what do the red X's represent ?! the hero positions ?

I hate to point out the obvious, but it's in the quest text. Area 2 for Beastman Lord, Area 3 for Titan.

simple yes would have been enough, and thx...I only look on the general rules, and skipped trough the scenarios...as I like to be surprised myself and give the players in the first RTL adventure a good game, if I'd read up and soak everything I need to know to quickly wipe them out....I would most likely ruin theire experiance.

Sorry, but you usually have to read the quest text to find out what the special encounter markers do each time (the Xs and '?' tiles). There are no standard functions. They are generic markers to donote something unique with the dungeon. Could be special pits, web locations, switches, etc.

Additionally, they are in a few dungeons here and there, but they are pretty rare. Dungeon 34 has three, rumor 11 has one, and that might be it. On a side note, it looks like a set of portals is unused - I can't seem to find the butt-ended portals in a quest (not that they really make much sense, anyway. I'll have to look harder.

maybe custom scenarios ?!...bwhahahaha
