Odd skills in heros (Allies)

By mr_smigs, in Dust Tactics

Ok...

Jonny One-Eye has Badass... but it seems only useful to keep my rangers stocked with UGLs...

the Armored Command squad has the ability to call in smoke from an artillery unit (If i Read that right)... but the only artillery weapon has only 4 shots before it's out (so smoke... not really an option...)

am I missing something here?

it seems to imply that Allies will get better options soon... but the axis seems to be getting all the nice "here's your squad, and the hero upgrade that rocks with it" packages...

Yes, that is exactly the intent of bad-ass, if you put him with the gunners it is a very nice combo.

The smoke does not require a shot from you artillery to use, the smoke come from an imaginary off the map support unit. Both heavy command squads work like this.

The allied units can easily take on the Axis units try thinking of way to use mobility to your advantage, I prefer Axis units but both armies are devastating when used correctly.

OK, i misread the smoke rules, I thought they needed an existing arty unit...

the Axis have a heavy command? which set is that?

Heavy Kommandotrupp is the axis Armor 3 command squad.

Remember about ammo drop! IMO that's the most important ability of hvy comand squads for allies. Steel Rain gains a lot thx to additional 4 shots. Also bonus UGLs can come in handy.

Baddass works with the Gunners and One Eye will give the unit some extra dice against infantry.
It also works with the Recon Boys and again the hero boosts the number of dice against infantry.
With the BBQ Squad it gives them unlimited Demo Charges and the unit gets a bit of range

So that is 3 units Mr One Eye will work with.

I think BBQ Boys are the only decent option for this hero. Pairing him with Recon Boys or The Gunners IMHO would be just a waste of points as UGL`s seem to be a mediocre weapons against Axis units with Damage Resistant ability.

not when the axis units are in heavy cover

Say the Axis unit is standing in a square with a tank trap (so hard cover). Move BBQ squad next to them and seeing that the Demo charges aren't close combat weapons you can blow up the tank trap and then shoot them with flamer and shotguns.

With Johny One-Eye the unit can then in the next turn still go and blow the legs of a Ludwig.

all im saying is there are other good option. also your hypothetical sutuation is invalid, you cannot attack the tanktrap before doing your other damage it happens at the same time.

Just remember that when attacking a squad and the cover element they're using, you must first resolve the attack on the squad (with cover), and only afterwards resolve the attack on the tank trap.

@ Dakkon and Loophole:
I was reading this topic and that tactic came to mind and only now do I realise that I got the order wrong. I guess the excitement of that tactic playing out in my head got the better of me.
