As for the Wotan i would field it as a good counter for allied and SSU hvies on big maps, last time it almost killed my punisher. Mine is arriving this week so i will test it and see how well it works;)
Worst unit?
for axis is hard to tell … there is some redudancy here and there … like wotan , laser jagd grenadiers, 2 hermans.
or flame luther vs 2 loths
also Super Heavy AT version req opponent to use super heavys to be worth it.
Super Heavy AA has not enough weapon lines…
infantry 2 becomes obsolete with infantry 3 with phasers,

That's a, uh… good question. With two Jnetzi squads you get an extra activation, improved cover, much better range and the Sniper ability.
The only reasons I can see to pick the Ohotniki over a couple Jnetzi are:
- Like me, you don't use multiples of the same unit type.
- You want more longevity for the widowmakers, which the 3 grunts offer…
+can do some damage in CC
+you can add commisar to unit {snipers are too squishy}
I think that you should aproch problem from diffrent angle …You choose Ohotniki when you need range 6 infantry squad with 2 dices vs armor 4
sniper squad is in difrent position on organisation chart and should be used difrently..

Yeach i too get only one of each (lowers the costs heh) and it makes you pick more diffrent units instead of 2 zombie squads vs 3 grim reapers:P

So, can the SSU players out there confirm that the Ohotniki (SSU Rifle Squad) are as crappy as they look?
Because I'm having a hard time seeing why I would spend 22 points on three normal infantry dudes + two snipers WHO CAN'T EVEN SNIPE when I can get four real snipers for 24 points.
I can confirm that they are as crappy as they look…I've fielded mine once, and dont see myself doing it again.

They deal out more dice damage at close range and buying the snipers will cost you twice as much, both units have their uses.

Not sure I'm quite following your logic here.
How do the two squads of Jnetzi cost you twice as much? They're 12 points apiece, right? So, 24 points for two squads of Jnetzi versus 22 points for one squad of Ohotniki.
And the Ohotniki squad only rolls significantly more dice in close range against Type 1 & 2 infantry and Type 1 vehicles. They roll a whopping 1 more die against Type 3 infantry and actually roll fewer dice against Type 4 infantry as well as Type 2, 3, & 4 vehicles.
Cost, as in $$$
A2 infantry is the most common foe, so is most important and don't generally use snipers to try and take out armour, thats not what they are for. There is also the close combat dice bonuses too with 5 models fighting rather than 2. You also have to compare a squad of 5 against a squad of 2 in combat situations due to individual unit activation.
On allied side the hammers. Though not a bad squad, all other jump infantry packs more punch for mostly the same cost. There is no situation I can imagine (please correct me) where a reaper squat with rhino is not superrior to hammers with rhino.

If you're attacking a vehicle, Hammers are considerably superior.
Today i tried fielding a flammluther and it didn't do a lot of a job..

Well, at least it has Assault and tougher armour to help it reach its target, unlike my poor Hot Dog…

@loop & poyetSo in which situation do you prefer hammers before reapers (and tank busters) considering only two of these squads can be supported by the precious heroes? Moe-them-down said:

I actually like to play the Grim Reapers joined by Rhino (to use his Berserk with their ranged attack) and the Hammers joined by OZZ (to attack opposing units with Flamer and Close Combat, then use OZZ to avoid the retaliation). Both combinations have been successful so far.

I like this too. Rhino + Tank Busters is really nice. Walkers go boom.
Lots of great Hero/Squad combos in this post, love it!
For me the Recon Boys have not done so much in my games…same with the BBQ Squad+Chef…
Sure I consider myself a poor player (don't play enough to have a good idea of whats good vs whats bad) so some choices I make are clearly not in my best interest lol.
On the Axis side, Loth is not that good of a Walker…rarely get close enough to serve it's purpose.
Have yet to play the SSU but I got all I need to play them, simply need to paint the troop chopper and the Sniper/Observer squad. My last SSU purchase was the Karl Marx…101 points of uberness! Can't wait to field this beast! Looking forward to try Winter Child too, **** this unit is packed with serious power!
Now…how to field a 450 pts army on a 3x4 tile map lol…
And that Babushka is looking sweet…maybe i'll add it to my SSU too…**** you Dust!
