base set- upgrading monsters

By johnwoo, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

hello

i have the base set.

one of the major problems is once the heroes open the first copper treasure the game is becoming unbalanced, and it is very easy for the heroes to win.

i thought about upgrading the monsters accordin to the rules in RTL ( http://boardgamegeek.com/filepage/38459 ). if i'll upgrade the monsters to silver lvl once the heroes open copper chest, and upgrade them to gold once the heores open the first silver or gold treasures.

do u think it will be balanced? i dont see any point spawning skeletons if the heroes have gold items.

Uhm, what sort of lame overlord are you? Get out there and put on a decent play! What do you want, getting your victories for free? Spawning upgradd critters without a reinforcement token?

But as to answer your question, NO, it would NOT be balanced in any way, as the levels are meant to be played with base monsters; learn to play better, and to defeat the heroes before they get the golden chest.

Keep in mind as well that the basic scenarios are designed to teach the players to play the game. Each new scenario forces them to deal with a different situation and develop tactics for it.

Once you've played through the basic set, these scenarios will be no challenge to the players at all. That's when you run other scenarios.
