Baratheon love?

By Archrono, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Well, Stannis never was very good at getting along with his Brothers. So I'd chalk it down to good old nedliness.

Oh, and Good God's Own Kiss nearly made me spill my coffee. Something along those lines, and Bara might actually be able to field some more interesting decks again.

Storm's End Tourney Grounds just doesn't have enough support from printed Joust keywords. Without the new Flowers (which just isn't as good as the old one, especially in a Knights-centric deck that is required for the Joust-giving weenie) it requires a three card combo to do anything, and is too easy to control/disrupt. If they printed a few (good) Joust characters for Bara, then it might be worth trying out. Just yet another underdeveloped theme in Bara. ; )

I still prefer card draw Renly to cost reduction Renly, Josh. five gold for cheaper guys as opposed to three gold for a probably +1 card a turn - just works better for me.

Agreed, I will always play AToR Renly over the other versions... 3 gold for a 4-STR Bicon with Noble Crest, Renown, and Lord/King traits is an auto-include to me; with such a ridiculously efficient card I don't even care about the draw effect, though it comes in handy from time to time.
I also still prefer Core Stannis - even with all the additional Lord characters he's still the best version imo.

aToR Renly is pretty sweet. I only have one though. I like running dupes, and KotStorm Robert is one of my favorite cards (for the double crown challenge) so I usually don't put Renly in.

Still, getting a good balance of intrigue in there is made a lot easier with aToR Renly. (He makes me want to run the Stormland's for powerstruggle goodness every turn too.)

Which Robert do you guy's like best? I like KotStorm Robert, Shadow Bob, and actually the new Melee Bob. (Maybe in that order too.)

Even last summer when the GenCon deck was all teh arge - I've always played the double renown Robert. Shadows has always been prevalent in New York - I have never been comfortable that shadows Robert's ability would actually work. 2x renown seals the deal quicker and is just too good to pass up.

I wish there were more Small council events worth playing out of Baratheon to justify the event Robert - recursion FTW as we have been saying above

And the king Robert from the Storm box - well at five gold: he's just too pricey. There are too amny other ways to get an extra power challenge, and at that cost, he is never getting out of my shoe box.

I personally really enjoy playing Baratheon. Probably because I feel extremely comfortable building decks with that particular house.

As for Roberts, I have to admit I think most of them are fairly strong, but recently I've been using the Robert from the Storm box. There was a tournament in my meta recently, and I was trying to make the fastest rush deck possible. I found Baratheon to be extremely useful because of the use Vigilant and how Edric Storm and Robert from the Storm box give you the opportunity to do extra power challenges. I know he's a bit pricey, but imo well worth it. Honestly, I also had no problem letting Robert be my only Baratheon King in my deck as well. There are so many strong characters like: The Knight of Flowers, Estermont, Extra Power Challenge Robert, Laughing Storm (Now unrestricted yay!) and Mel. Also Arena Knights and Penrose who already have vigilant so I don't have to worry about putting banner of the storms on them.

It's super fun with the maesters as well! Putting banner of the storm on them to be able to trigger the chains a few times. It also gives you the opportunity to use Citadel Customs. I love how focused Baratheon is on power challenges and personally I think Baratheon can make an extremely strong rush deck. I do love other houses, but Baratheon is just too much fun to play right now!

Again we agree... Core Robert is the one I use most often, probably b/c its so easy to stand him and try to get 4 power in a single Round. Extra P challenge Robert isn't worth the cost and doesn't help with the rush types I build for, and Shadows Robert is nice but I have more faith in the Core version since a single card in Shadows turns him into a relatively average Renown guy.
Recursion Robert is good from certain builds, but not for rush decks imo, and I always felt like he would be more useful out of other Houses or Allianced/Treaty... the Distinct Mastery (or Obey the King) trick is nice, but I look at him and think "wow, I could recycle my Hatchlings Feast!"
