all your bases belong to us!

i have a question about aquiring void stations. recently my pc's managed to overcome a small space station, instead of blowing it away they tried to board and claim it for themselves. well it crashed into the planet because they where unable to relight the main powercore in time. afterwards several of the players wanted to know how they could aquire a station of similar class for there home base( a decent sized astroid)

my question is how to go about letting them get instalations of that size. in my reading of some background fluff i have found things as small as a lance battery in orbit to 100 mile long star forts.

what would be a good size/function limit, and how much should it cost to get oh a 5 mile defence/drydock facility?

In general, I treat it as a standard ship acquisition, using Cruiser hulls as the base with a few alterations (Remove the need for a warp drive, any Dorsal weapon-mounts are converted to Aft).

Either give them salvage rights to The Hermitage or let them take it over by force if they have the will, firepower and negotiating skills to do so. Page 29 of Edge of The Abyss lists is as a lesser endeavor netting the party +1 PF as well a void station to call home. Obtaining something as massive as a void station will be much more impressive and cherished if they earn it instead of simply buying it.
