Pathfinder "circles" question

By Lexthilian, in Tannhauser

I have played many miniatures games using both maps and open table top terrain, and I have a question about this game and its maps. I have never played this game but I have been watching its progress and am considering it. My main concern is the placement of the pathfinder circles on the maps. I see a lot of unused space that could easily contain more spaces for units.

Example; on one map I noticed a single unit path into a room where there could easily have been more circles to its right side allowing another unit to support it in a ranged fight with enemy units across the room. In some hallways units could stand two side by side, but the path only had one circle. I also noticed this around obstacles where a buddy system could be used but again, only one circle.

As I said, I have never played this game so maybe this does not become an issue, but it seems like a lot of unused space that could provide tactical options. Could anyone "enlighten" me on this? Does the sometimes sparse placement of circles take away from the strategy, as I have been considering this game.

I suppose it would all be in the eye of the beholder. Some may say it takes away, whilst others could say it adds by forcing you to think about optimal moves in your movement phase, and not just the application of fire in the action phase.
