Is there a gold penalty on out of house cards I play as duplicates?
I built a Bara Nights Watch and I want to use my Jon Snow (Stark) as a dupe on my no-house Jon Snow.
Thanks.

No, there is NEVER a cost to play a duplicate on a unique card. Ever.
There is a cost to bring a duplicate out of shadows, though (but you can play the duplicate out of your hand normally instead).

True.
But in that situation, you are putting the duplicate into play, not playing it. So technically, the original statement still stands.

Only if the dupe is still in your hand. If it's already in shadows, you need to pay the cost to bring it out.

Except that the Shadows rules clearly says otherwise:
"If another copy of a unique card that you own and control is in play, you still may bring the card out of Shadows by paying its cost. However, the card immediately attaches to its copy as a duplicate."
I am not understanding where the debate is continuing.
Bringing a card out of the shadows is not playing the card, it's putting the card into play. Putting a card into play that happens to be a duplicate, is attached as a duplicate to the card that is already in play.
I think I have misunderstood ktom's previous statement as somehow disagreeing with me, instead of reinforcing my point.
I think I've been arguing against a statement that nobody made.
I think I shall hang my head in shame now.
He who laughs last ... didn't get the joke.
(I was wondering why you were fighting me when I was trying to say you had it right the first time. There is never a cost to play a duplicate - even if there is a cost to put them into play in some circumstances.)
