Question on FAQ 1.6 Timing Structure

By Gardine, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Hi guys,

I'm involved preparing the german FAQ. When i compared it to the englische FAQ 1.6 i found this on page 9, right column about action windows:

B. Action Window

1. Triggered actions ...

2. Players have the opportunity to play actions (starting with the active player , these will either start a new chain or be added to an existing chain if any Triggered Actions were triggered during B-1)
-Choose targets, then pay all costs. If this triggers a Constant or Forced Effect(s), [Go to A]
-This continues until both players have passed consecutively

3. Resolve Action chain ...

4. After B-3 resolves, players may take additional actions [Go to B-2] starting with the next player (players alternate turns when taking actions) . Action Window closes when neither player wants to take any additional actions.

I ever thought the active player has priority on every new action chain, but at point 4 it is said, that players alternate having priority. When I follow the instruction going back to B-2, its again the active player who starts the chain, as said in the brackets.

Can somebody explain how it works? Do players alternate with priority on starting a chain or is it always the active player?

I believe the "next player" refers to the player who hasn't played the last action. When you resolve the previous chain, you end the chain with the first action played (Last In First Out), and if this action was played by player A, then after resolving the action chain, player B has the priority, regardless who is the active player.

That's how I understand this.

yeah thats one plausible option (maybe most plausible).

But it could also mean players alternate in starting action-chains, doesn't it?

Is there nobody else who always has given the priority to the active player when starting chains?

Or somebody who can explain how it exactly works?

Starting with the active player, players take turns playing actions. These either start a new chain, or get added to an existing chain in the case of triggered actions triggered during B1.

For simplicity, let's say we got past B1 and nothing was triggered. We're now in B2. The active player plays an action. The other player may respond to that, then the active player may respond himself (to the other player's action, or if there wasn't one, to his own original action), then the other player again, and so on, until both pass. We've got a chain of 1 to x actions, that resolves in reverse order.

Now (or right away, if the active player passed on playing an action) the other player may play an action, and first the active player may respond to it, then other player ... see above.

In other words: Players take turns playing actions (= starting action chains), and once an action has been played, they take turns possibly responding to that or subsequent actions, by playing actions.

two people, two opinions.

For me this whole "alternate starting chains" thing is new. So in my capitalphase, after i played one unit and that chain resolved, I have to ask my opponent, if he wants to start a chain, before I can start a new chain by playing my next unit/support..?

Yes, that is correct. I mean you probably don't have to actually ask him, but that is technically how the priority would work. FAQ 1.7 will make this explicitly clear (which you may already know if you are working on the German version).

I dont think ffg passed the not official yet FAQ to the german publisher. But as i'm not an employee of them i dont know that. I was simply asked to read the unpublished german FAQ, which will be updated to the english version 1.6 (if they had the 1.7, they would update the german one to that point i guess).

Do you know when the new faq will be released? I'd like to pass that information to the german guys who are working at the german FAQ so that they can embed 1.7 into their work.

Sorry, don't know that. Would expect to see it soon.
