Lannister- Power behind the Throne

By Mighty Jim 83, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I'm trying to tidy up a Lannister deck I've built, for a joust tournament that's coming up. At the moment, the deck is a bit too big, and the plot deck is enormous- I can't decide whether the deck works without Cersei, or I need summoning season (guarantees her, but also gives opponent their chief nasty) It's not very focussed, I think that's not too big a problem with the characters, but wonder a bit about the locations and events.

Any suggestions on what to remove/how to tighten this up?

Agenda
The Power Behind the Throne

Plots (10)
Shadows and Spiders Lions of the Rock 1 (Money. Without misinformation it's very good. With, it's probably the best plot in your deck)
Loyalty Money Can Buy Queen of the Dragons 1 (Great plot. But I don't think it's absolutely necessary. This is an aggressive agenda, and this is a pretty passive plot. Muster the Realm gives you +1 Gold and should block most early military challenges)
Frey Hospitality Lions of the Rock 1 (Staple for sure.)
All the Gold in Casterly Rock Lions of the Rock 1 (Good, but I don't think it's necessary. Just the one hear me roar (or some other 5G plot) should be enough.)
Summoning Season Core Set 1 (Not worth it. Cersei is nice, but this is way too risky.)
The Breaking of Oaths Kings of the Sea 1 (Overkill I feel. Especially if you're forced to flip this while you're behind. You'll just give them 2 cards)
Breaking and Entering Lions of the Rock 1 (Not as good in practice as I thought it would be, not a bad choice for 2 claim, but there are better)
Hear Me Roar Core Set 1 (Good. This slot is probably a toss up for this or Muster the Realm for me)
Game of Thrones Lions of the Rock 1 (Great. Good initiative, and nice with renown out)
Valar Morghulis Core Set 1 (Staple)
Other ideas:
-Rule by Decree: This is an excellent opener if you have good plot or any phase effects (Battle of the bay/You've Killed the wrong dwarf/Golden tooth vaults, etc..) This will give you a decent chance of dropping their hand by 3 cards first turn. If they open with Search and Detain, this will also force them to take back their own character.

-Search and Detain: Screws up knight decks, power rush, all sorts of stuff. By making them go first, you also give your enemy informer more targets to kneel.

-Called to Court: Tricky plot, but lots of utility. Best case scenario: They have no cards, you flip this, return your Enemy Informer or some other come into play effect to your hand, play Arys Oakheart (or any other good 2-3 cost guy) from your hand.

Characters (32)
Ser Ilyn Payne 1 (Good, but risky)
House Payne Enforcer 3 (Super solid for this build)
Ser Jaime Lannister (Lions of the Rock) 2 (Just run 1; Yeah he's great. I like the core set version more for this agenda, but this is also a great Jaime)
Cersei Lannister (Lions of the Rock) 3 (Solid; It's definitely worth the risk to run 3)
Enemy Informer 1 (I love this guy. If you're going second, you can really wreck with this, especially with the 2 intrigue challenges available to you)
Corrupt Contender 1 (I see the utility, but I think there are better choices)
Brothel Guard 1 (Amazing. Why not 3?)
Arrogant Contender 1 (Never played with this guy, but he seems to work out well for most people)
Bronn (Lions of the Rock) 2 (Love him, but 1 is really all you need)
Mountain Refugee 2 (Great claim soak; worth keeping)
Cersei's Attendant 1 (Way better options in the 1 cost slot, Doubting Septa (better with confession!) and Bronn's Hireling. Maybe even 1 cost Hound for this build)
Ser Kevan Lannister 1 (Staple)
Ser Balon Swann 1 (Yeah, great choice)
Lannisport Steward 1 (Staple for this build)
Myrcella Lannister (Lions of the Rock) 2 (Great)
Joffrey Baratheon (Kings of the Sea) 1 (Interesting, but I would cut it)
Ser Gregor Clegane (Where Loyalty Lies) 1 (Solid)
Bronn's Hireling 3 (Solid)
The Hound (Where Loyalty Lies) 1 (I don't think you're getting your moneys worth here)
Ser Gregor's Band 1 (Better choices in the 4 cost slot)
Tywin Lannister (Core) 1 (Interesting, I could see it working)
Lady Genna 1 (I don't like her for this build, because you don't want them actually winning the challenges, as tempting as killing people with deadly is)
Other ideas:
-Craster: He's just dumb, and pretty much one free intrigue win a turn.

- Pyromancer's Apprentice: A good go-to location removal card if you don't have the event space for condemned by the council, which is probably the best for this build.

Tommen: If you can get him, he is a good card draw staple.

Events (10)
Terminal Schemes 1 ( I'd run 3; since they can all trigger off the same challenge)
Fights No Sword Can Win 1 (Yeah! This is clever, I would keep this)
I'm You Writ Small 1 (Not a bad choice for sure)
Bought and Paid For 2 (This is really bad, if you aren't willing to run any maesters, I would just run bastard)
A Lannister Pays His Debts 1 (Interesting, I could see it working)
Wars Are Won with Quills 1 (Annoying probably, but I bet there are better choices)
The Wealth of the Rock 2 ( Oh, this is fun)
Double Bluff 1 (This is good! 1 or 2 is probably useful)
Other ideas:
You've killed the wrong dwarf: So much utility it's nuts. Kneel the problem character, trigger rule by decree, win the game etc.

Misinformation: Really good, especially so with Shadows and Spiders.

Westeros Bleeds x2/Favorable Groundx2: These require a dedicated influence subtheme to get consistant use out of, but are easy ways to
establish board control when they are drawing off the deck.

Locations (16)
Sunset Sea 1 (I would run 3 or none)
Hall of Heroes 1 (If you're going to run this, I would just run the treasury)
Queen Cersei's Chambers 1 (Staple)
Shadowblack Lane 1 (Solid)
Darkened Hallways 1 (If you have solid answers to cards in general, you don't need this)
The Goldroad 3 (Staple)
Lannisport 1 (Lots of work really... in practice this never really works out as well as I'd like)
Lannisport Treasury 1 (Dangerous, but I'd run it over hall of heroes)
Lannisport Brothel 1 (Yeah! Solid)
Golden Tooth Mines 2 (If you're not running pyromancer's cache, run 3 of these)
Casterly Rock 1 (Solid)
Western Fiefdoms 2 (Since you aren't really running influence effects, I would run more efficient reducers than this)

The iron throne: Staple. You can cancel Viper's Bannerman with this. Not to mention other random card draw effects.

Lannisport Tourney Grounds: Good and potentially scary. I would run 1x this 1x slander and lies before 2x slander and lies)

Attachments (8)
Devious Intentions 2 (Interesting, but I think it's redundant)
Bodyguard 1 (Not bad. Don't forget that this doesn't protect against search and detain though)
Slander and Lies 2 (Love this card, but really I would just run 1, in the off chance you run into a deck that this card will cripple)
Bastard 1 (Yeah!)
Vat of Wildfire 2 (Not great. There is a lot better location control out there)

Pyromancer's Cache: The best carddraw card in the game, if you can run this, there's no reason not to. (Unless you are running few locations)

~~~
TLDR;
Anyway, based on the cards you've given me, if I was to try and tweak your deck, it would look like this. You really need some more draw though, so I would add in a little bit more somewhere. If you can get a hold of some of the other cards I mentioned, especially for location control, your deck will be a little bit more consistant.
thanks. Lots of interesting thoughts there- had already had quite a bit of feedback from another forum, which was leading me away from kneel effects a bit.
Just to clarify- why wouldn't bodyguard protect against search and detain? it's an attachment, isn't that's all that's required.
Oh! Sorry, that was my mistake. :P
