An odd question perhaps but i'm tempted to eventually get this game.
How good is it? What are it's strengths and weaknesses?
How much replayability does it have and are further expansions planned?
How good is the game?

It contains very many reviews and different opinions about this game. Seeing as it seems to be a game that polarises people, some threads are quite full of controversy. But if you want to get a balanced view of pros and cons, likes and dislikes, this is a good place to start.
My thanks for the quick response.
Btw any news about FFG bringing out this:

I haven't heard anything, but since FFG handles the Tannhauser universe over here, I suppose it would logically print it if they did bring Field Ops over to the States.
Seems quite fun. I do hope they do.
Though FFG will probably take forever as usual. ^^
It won't take forever, but it will take a while. Which is still better than never, which it would be without FFG. Unless you like the French version better.
I'd go at this game with a grain of salt.
If you don't mind "dice-fest" games were the game pretty much comes down the good or bad rolls on a die (regardless of your best tactical efforst) .. then you might like it. If you are looking for more strategy ala a true miniatures game or even tile based miniatures game like Descent .. then it isn't for you.
It's not as fast-paced as advertised. Unlike card-based miniature games .. the rules for each weapon/ability on your character are scatterred on reference sheets .. it really slows the pace of the game down when you are constantly referencing them.
Lack of characters and boards in the base game get stale fast and like my group .. the initial game didn't impress us enough to go out and buy expansion
Play it a few times (more than once for sure) with someone else's copy.
Let's just say that my group was impressed by the good looking components and quick gameplay from a brief demo at a con .. and have regretted the purchase ever since and it is pretty much gathering dust after 4-5 plays. A game that came down to whichever side won initiative won the match was the straw that broke the camel's back for us. A die roll is a great way to start a game .. NOT end it.
If board games were ever bundled like computer games (as in bundling the base game with an expansion or two at a lower price than the combined price) I'd say go for it since the game may be better with more variety. It's a shame board games don't do that as often as computer games.
It's a good system and great fantasy if you like steampunk genre.
It's cons are few, mostly in multiplayer games it takes a long time for turns and the feeling that your character may die before your turn comes around. It helps if you proxy characters so that each player is able to play with two or more. However the game is best played when it is just one vs one.
The pros, easy to follow, great scenario game, often wanting to do objectives then just kill opponent. Games with just killing have become old because it just becomes that the look of the game changes but none of the strategy. Tannhauser has plenty of room for creative twists and house rules.

I would have to counter this with saying you're playing too aggressively if it comes down to who wins initiative. You should be anticipating that you may not win initiative, and think a couple of turns in advance. It's unfair to say the game lacks strategy if you choose ignore it.
