Suggested Non-DeathWatch Supplements

By Kiwamu, in Deathwatch

I know, I could combine DeathWatch with Dark Heresey, Rogue Trader and Black Crusade, but my group agrees, they want to stay in the Reach.

However we both agree, that we don't want to expand the fluff and I like the supplements books that give some more intel or profiles to use for DEATHWATCH.

For example DARK HERESEY - DEAMON HUNTER, I had a chance to take a glimpse into this book and decided it is very suitable for future DeathWatch plays and planning on aquiring it.

Are there other supplements you might want to recommend. I would be happy if you gave a good description of what to expect, so I can decide on it :)

Thanks for all the intel given in advance!

In terms of what's missing for DW players from the existing material that might be of use, you might consider the spaceship combat rules of Rogue Trader, which you can find covered in the RT core rulebook and Battlefleet Koronus. Note however that those books don't cover Space Marine vessels - though you could always write your own or look on DarkReign for fanmade versions.

The forthcoming "Only War" book for DH covers the Imperial Guard. It may well (I have no idea if this is true or not, it's only speculation on my part) contain useful stuff like vehicle rules, which could (again, speculation on my part) port across to DW. It'll also (presumably) contain material on the Imperial military and crusades which coulsd be of help in DW. Please note though that I have no actual idea what's in the book as I haven't read it, and it's not out yet, so don't quote me on this!

If you want other vehicle rules, the RT book "Into the Storm" covers an RT version of them, and has a small sample of useful vehicles.

If you want interesting opponents for your DW marines, you could try the "Monster Manuals" for DH (Creatures Anathema) and RT (the forthcoming Koronus Bestiary.) Be aware however that the combat systems are slightly different, and the emphasis in each game is on lower level opponents than DW marines are used to. In Creatures Anathema you're looking at cultists, individual daemonic entities and low level xenos threats, for example.

In all honesty the best non-Deathwatch book to use with Deathwatch is probably The Koronus Bestiary. You'll find out why when the book comes out.

Of the ones that are out already, that's more difficult. Daemon Hunter is the most applicable, as the Grey Knight careers are on par (power wise) with the DW Marines. Blood of Martyrs could work if you want to mix in a lot of Sisters. The rest... not so much IMO.

Thanks for that one, as for the sister, since the RISING TEMPEST book seems to feature a battle sister on the cover, I'm hoping there will be a full profile of a nmed char, which I can easily amend of copy in full to use for other sisters... Well I have to see on that. Thanks for confirming that Deamon Hunter is a much of a no-brainer.

As other have said, Battlefleet Koronous is nice for starship profiles. Daemonhunter is a nice pick if you ever want Grey Knight PCs (or NPCs, I suppose). I personally like Ascension , though I am definitely in the minority on that account. That book has stats for some battle sisters, by the way.

Blood of Martyrs and The Book of Judgement could be useful if your PCs will be heavily interacting with the Ecclesiarchy or the Arbites, respectively.

If your players are getting tired of the Jericho Reach you can buys some setting books for Rogue Trader and stage a mission or two in the Kronous Expanse.

Well we are kinda beginning, we've done two-three missions in the far eastern fringe of the reach (so we could use officially settings later on) to try it out. (that's why I need help here ), also since my friends love lots of backgrounds and a vivid world (and a crusade ensures a very lively world) they love the reach so far.

I'll keep that however in mind for later missions... any titles you can suggest?

While this is a bit of a stretch, yo ucould always play around with adapting some of the historical briefs from the Imperial Armour books. It gives you a huge list of NPC names ,a general outline of how a war surrounding a single planet (or planetary systems) can go, and some pretty pretty pictures for your group to glorify in ("Oh, so THAT'S what teh Elysian 18th Air Cavalry looks like!").
