Some questions about the Dragon expansion after first playthrough

By Demarki, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hi there! I recently purchased the Dragon expansion and I have a couple questions I can't find the answers for:

1) If you encounter a Dragon Scale on a square and you draw a card from the Dragon deck which happens to be an item, what happens to the Scale after? Is it discarded once I loot the item or does it stay on the square?

2) Same question as above if I draw an enemy and I get defeated or have a stand-off, what happens to the Dragon Scale on that square?

3) When I enter the Crown of Command and fight with the current Dragon Lord, does he get +1 strength/craft for every Dragon Scale on his Dragonic Lord card or for every Dragon Scale on all the squares in the board?

4) If I'm fighting against the Dragon King and he already has 2 Dragon Scales on his card, what happens if another player draws a Dragonic Scale and places it on his card, will he keep all 3 scales along with his crown, or are we forced to discard them so he will only keep the crown?

5) Same question as above but in case we place 3 Dragon Scales on another Draconic Lord while someone is fighting the Dragon King at the Crown of Command - since he won't receive the Crown what will happen to the Dragon Scales on his card? Will he keep 3 scales without having a crown or will he discard them and place one Scale on the character's square?

A:No, he fights only with his strength or craft printed on the card.

A: if the current dragon king has 2 scales, while someone is fighting him in the inner region, and amother player draws a third scale, then you discard the scales and place one on characters space outside the inner region.

Remember, As long as someone is fighting the dragon king, the crown do not move.

And you can also not place a dragon scale in the inner region.

I am sorry but this doesn't make much sense to me. So during the final battle you will receive a plus bonus to your rolls for every matching Dragon Scale you have but the Dragon King will have a mere 12/12 stats for example? Considering that the Dungeon boss has 12/12 stats as well it makes the final encounter feel like a walk in the park.

That's right.

Varthrax has at least strength 14 but is weak in craft.

Grillipus has higher craft but weak in strength

And Cadorus is indeed a simple 12/12 endboss

The Challenge in the Dragon Tower are more the dragon cards than the final endboss himself

1) Every time a character encounters a Dragon Scale he has to draw a card from the appropriate Dragon deck even if there are unresolved cards from the same deck on the square? For example the previous player drew a Dragon which he didn't manage to kill so both the Scale and the Dragon enemy are on the square.

2) Do the Dragon Scales characters earn help them against the Dragon Lord at the Crown of Command? If for example I have 5 Varthrax Scales and I encounter Varthrax, I will get a +5 on my rolls? This will make him almost useless, especially if I am attacking him with craft.

1) If you decided to encounter dragon scale, then you have to draw 1 card (additional to already on space) from Dragon deck. Then you have to encounter them all. if you succeed to kill enemy from Dragon card, you may claim a scale. Otherwise scale remains on the space.

Tip: If there is already faceup Enemy from Dragon card and the scale is not from Dragon king (in this situation you must draw card), then you can simply encounter space. Killing enemy from Dragon card you still entitled to get a scale. So you dont need to draw additional card and make your life more difficult

2) Not sure. But you already wrote about walk in the park... I used to play, when you CAN use in the battle against Dragon King. But Dragon king is also adding scales from ALL Draconic Lord cards. When you are playing in bigger group, this might be interesting challenge, if to use Alt Ending Dragon King.

Enjoy game. It is really fantastic!

Not sure what you mean by saying that the Dragon King is also adding scales from all Draconic Lords - the Dragon king is one of the 3 Draconic Lords and you fight the one that currently has the Crown, right?

The Dragon King does not add the scales to his strength or craft. He fights with the strength or craft printed on the card.

I think you use a house rule.

That's true.

If you collect enough scales, than there is a chance that you can easily win from him by fighting with strenght or craft.

But if you go through the dungeon, then your strength is around 22 and you can easily beat a dragon lord

So,.. fighting endbosses has always been a big downside.

At least with the tower, you must work yourself to the top.

We apply a simple house rule to make the final battle feel epic - Dragon Scales only count against enemies from the same deck, but they won't boost your rolls against the Dragon King himself. It only makes sense, right?

You can always house rule it indeed. It don't make sense because you can use those scales against those dragon lords.

But there is one dragon king alternate ending, and i don;t know yet how that will work in the game.

I should say that the scales then cannot be used against that dragon.

But i think that you can still draw dragon tokens and let the dragonic lords fight with each other for the crown, but the real dragon king is on the top of the tower.

Then you need a talisman too, in case, it will kill you.

I have a question about drawing scales. Do players in the Inner Region, or the Tower if one is using that expansion, also draw scales at the beginning of their every turn? I assume so, and they simply discard the scale at the end of their turn if a new Dragon King is corwned and a scale drops on their space.

They still draw dragon scales, but there's a specific rule in the Rulebook that instructs you not to place scales on your space in the Inner Region (or Tower). Check page 8. (it's highlighted as an " important " statement).

Yep i can read:) Was just wondering if players in the Inner Region should influence the crowning of a new king. Thanks for the reply.
