Question about Skill Training (RtL)

By Nakarashi, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

OK, time for my newbish question :P

In RtL, it states that your skill training changes costs based on how many skills you previously knew, along with the fact that you may never learn more than 5 skills total.

My question is "Does this include the 3 starting skills that your character knows?" I know that some of the new ToI characters start with less than 5, but why would they include the skill cost chart going back to 1 if no character starts with less than 2?

I believe that this means you my train up to 5 NEW skills (making the average total 8), but I would like to make sure that I'm on some decent footing for that rule.

In RTL every charecter only starts out with 1 skill, you draw the normal for vanilla descent plus 1 but you then pick one of those skills you want to start with. So max skills of 5.

As Solmead posted, all characters in RtL start with one skill - though they may get more or less skill cards to choose from (usually 3+1, but the newer characters vary). See RtL pg 8

each hero player draws the skill cards indicated on his hero sheet, plus one extra skill from the skill deck of his choice. Heroes begin the campaign with only one skill , however, so each hero player then chooses one of these skill cards to keep and discards the others back to their appropriate decks.

The 5 skills is a total (note it says skills known previously, not skills learned in the box on pg 23, and if you already know 5 skills you can't learn another), including the starting skill.

Oops... I knew there was something I missed. Thanks a lot for pointing that out. We'll adjust the game in progress, then.
