Talisman: The Blood Moon Expansion

By Velhart, in Talisman

I am still not so happy with reading in the rules, that the character with the Morningstern is a Doomsayer..?

I think it's a mistake from FFG.

He should be called a Pit Fighter..

A Doomsayer is actually a evil Cleric.

Then probably that is what he is and not a pit fighter. The only information we know is the rules and the miniature, thus there was no reason in the first place to presume that he was a pit fighter. He is not that far away from the Cleric as I see it. Though I cannot judge much from the mini.

But he has exactly the look of a Pit Fighter.

There are no doubts about that.

You can see it on the cover of the box.

The only reason if they change the name is if the Pit Fighter word is protected by games workshop

Pit Fighter has two abilities and a sword, while Doomsayer three abilities and only a Morgenstern. Pit Fighter has a nice second ability, maybe we will see him someday too. After all a lot of other Characters may use that weapon gui%C3%B1o.gif

That's what the Pit fighter could do from third edition

But a original Pit Fighter, has the Morgenstern and does exactly look the same as the Cover on the box and the miniature.

A Doomsayer has nothing to do with the look of this character!

PS: How do you know if the Doomsayer aka Pit fighter has three abilties?

Well, I must disagree. Pit Fighter and Doomsayer are sharing only a Morgenstern and nothing more. Pit Fighter looks completely different, he additionally has a helmet and a sword. Doomsayer has nothing. Also for me Pit Fighter looks more like a gladiator, while Doomsayer like a mad guy from nuthouse (Welcome Home~).

P.S. I was playing a little with hi res Rulebook ;) N.

Look closer. You will find it is not actually a morningstar…

Here's a clue to his origin (as far I I see it)

Yes, his weapon is a flail, not Morgenstern, but old habit from 2nd Ed. Dragon's Morning Star wins gui%C3%B1o.gif

That's not true.

This character on the cover of the box is a Pit Fighter from Warhammer quest released by games Workshop.

They have no helmet and no real sword, but they have a morningstern.

Even if FFG has name him a Doomsayer, it's still a Pit Fighter.

Let's blame the Protecting rights of games workshop.

FFG has did this with more cards by changing their names.

Is this a Pit Fighter, or Doomsayer?

I have never had Warhammer Quest, so I may not know that. I will dig BGG to see if I can find it.

Though there are signs pointing to him having Doomsayer abilities. One of his abilities involves gaining spells and events (not sure what the connection is though). He also can do something with enemies and the last one mentions adventure cards. So he doesn't share any abilities of the Pit Fighter and Doomsayer is rather a more appropriate name.

I have compared them and they are similar, bot not identical. Doomsayer has mohawk hairstyle, while Pit Fighter doesn't. Doomsayer doesn't have spikes, while Pit Fighter does have. Doomsayer has a flail with single star, while Pit Fighter has a flail with three stars, and a sword. Finally Pit Figther has a shield in the middle of his body. I'm still not sure if they are the same characters ;).

Doomsayer

Strength: 3, Craft: 4, Fate: 3, Life: 4

Whenever any character draws an Enemy, you may replenish 1 fate.

Whenever any character draws an Event, you may gain 1 Spell, if your Craft allows.

Whenever you draw an Adventure Card that is not an Enemy or an Event, you may draw 1 additional card. You may only do this once per turn.

Start: City, Alignment: Neutral

@Nemomon,

Here is a picture of a Pit Fighter from games workshop

As you can see, they have no helmets, and no swords.

Do you have a very good picture of the Doomsayer that you mention?

The Pit Fighter has also a mohawk hairstyle.

That are some very good abilities!

Horrible Black Void

You and all of your possessions are pulled into the Horrible Black Void; you lose the game!

After a character encounters the Horrible Black Void, remove it from the game. Then draw another alternative Ending Card and place it facedown on the Crown of Command for the next character to encounter.

Regards,

Ell.

Living Doll (Adventure Card)

Magic Object

You must take the Doll and ditch all of your other Objects. You may have no other Objects until you visit the Alchemist in the City and discard this Object to gain a gold.

Regards,

Ell.

Drain Life (Spell Card)

Cast on an Enemy you are about to encounter. Discard the Enemy and heal an amount of life equal to the Enemy's Strength or Craft.

Regards,

Ell.

Haunting Poltergeist (Spell Card)

Cast on any character at the start of his turn. The character must take this card as a Follower and only moves 1 space per turn. The character must discard this card if he crosses the River, either by bridge, raft, or ferry.

Nice!

Another negative card, that you don't want to get.

We will probably not use this ending, since we always play with revealed endings.

Poltergeist has become a spell card.

Funny

Lightbearers (Alternative Ending Card - Revealed)

  • All players start the game with characters of good alignment. Characters are always good; if an effect changes a character's alignment, he loses 1 life instead.
  • At the start of the game, each character must take 2 fate from the stockpile and place them on this card. Whenever night falls, discard 1 fate from this card. If the last fate is discarded, the game ends and all players lose. If a character enters the Crown of Command before the last fate is discarded, all players win the game!
  • Characters cannot attack each other. Instead, characters may freely exchange gold, Objects, and Followers when they encounter each other.
  • If 2 or more characters are on the same space, they may add their Strength value or Craft value together during battle and psychic combat.

Regards,

Ell.
