Was the base game (2005) revised?

By bw13187, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello everyone. I've done a ton of a research on this game and I've finally got the money to go buy it (I'm super excited!) but I'd just like to check one thing real fast. I THOUGHT I remembered reading something about the base game being revised at some point. Is this true? If it is, how will I be able to tell if the one in-store is revised? Where does it say?

MAYBE I just conflated that with the re-works they did to the egyptian expansion or something. Somebody set the record straight for me please!

Hi there!

reprints have a couple of cards with the wording fixed. If my memory still works, they fixed the following:

- Healing stone (unique item)
- Lantern (common item)
- Flesh ward (spell)

Also the board have some little difference in the nuances of some colours. But anyway, don't worry, Arkham was reprinted so many times there is no chance you can find the 2005 release. And I think that in case you have such a bad luck to get one of the first pressing copies, you can ask the Customer Care for a replacement (or you can buy the DH expansion: replacement cards were included in that box, too).

There is probably a way to know this by looking at the box, but I'm afraid you have to wait for someone more skilled than me to show you the magic trick

And welcome to the Carnival! aplauso.gif gui%C3%B1o.gif demonio.gif

Lower right corner: it should say "REVISED PRINTING" (or something to that effect).

That's a simple and elegant solution, Jgt!

Oh, thanks for the replies, guys!

I feel welcome. Time to kill some gods.

Or die horribly

I'd be amazed if any games stores still have original-print-run copies on the shelves at this point.

I think the original print-run board actually had some significantly different design elements... obviiously it was exactly the same for gameplay purposes but the background image was a lot darker; also, the more ornate font (the one used on the box for the words 'Arkham Horror') was used more commonly, i.e. on the titles of cards etc, which made it very hard to read in some cases.

There are other differences in the components too: the original run had those sort of rubbery, jagged-toothed stands for the investigator markers, whereas the newer printings have clear hard plastic stands that don't chew up the markers so much. In some ways the original type of stand was actually better because it wouldn't shake loose from the marker so easily, so you don't have to rummage around for stands and re-attach them at the start of every game... but it just depends how you store your components.

(Wow I have far too much to say on this subject... now I will go outside in the sun).

I have a revised edition that still has the rubbery stands and I much prefer those over the hard, clear plastic ones. It's easy enough to avoid damaging the cardboard by just bending them out a bit before putting them over the token, and they clamp tight when you're done. The new hard plastic ones not only have a tendency to shake loose, but they have little "teeth" (for lack of a better word) on the inside of the grip that will inevitably leave grooves on the tokens.

Nowadays basically all of the FFG's games use the newer hard plastic stands, so those're probably what will be in any copy still on shelves today.
