Son of the Mist Rules

By Archrono, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hey all.

Just a question I haven't found addressed in the forums about the Son of the Mist ability.

According to the text (and the way me and my friend have been playing,)

"Response: After a player plays the last card from his or her hand, kneel a Clansman character to have son of the mist claim 1 power."

Now, we've been playing it that when a player plays the last card from their hand, the owner of the Son of the Mist can kneel as many Clansman characters
he likes to have Son of the Mist claim that many power.

My concern is the wording of the card says Kneel "A" Clansman for "1", not "Kneel X Clansman to have Son of the Mist claim X power." (If this is the case then that wording would be a lot more clear.)

Thanks for your help!

You are allowed to trigger a response only once per trigger. Here, the trigger is a player playing the last card from their hand, so the controller of Son of the Mist (who might not be his owner) can only kneel 1 Clansman character each time a player plays their last card (if more than one does, he can trigger the response each time).

This is all part of the "one Response per trigger" rule. In general, when a card says "Response: after X happens...," it can only be triggered one time for each X.

Look at a card like Robb Stark and be glad of this, BTW. If Robb worked the way you have been playing Son of the Mist, winning one challenge with him would mean you could kill each and every character on your opponent's side of the board.

Thanks guys. I guess I was mainly thinking of the kneeling of the clansman as the cost and not the last card play.

So the problem with the way you have been playing isn't that you are not able to pay the cost more than once. It is that you are not able to meet the play restrictions more than one time - by the definition of Responses.
