Reversal (pretty sure lots of threads but the search Engine SUCKS ASSSSSSSSSS)

By AsianUFSNoob, in UFS Rules Q & A

WEll anyhow, When is the Keyword Reversal considered OFFICALLY "Played"?

is it before the check or after the check?

Also a while back i read in the QnA portion of the old forums that the sentenece "Only Playable Once Per Block" (ex Reversals) is ruled to be a sentence of its complete own and has no relation to the negation of the Reversal Keyword itself but on the other hand sentences like "Only playable Once per Turn." is all part of the effect and what not. so what exactly is these rulings now?

The keyword Reversal is considered played after the block but before the check is made.

It is a Response ability.

After the check has been made, even if it fails, you are considered to have attempted to play a Reversal and can therefore not attempt any more on that block.

However if the Reversal ability is negated before the check you are never considered to have played a Reversal and can therefore attempt to play a different Reversal, you may not attempt to play the same Reversal again on that attack, though you may attempt to play the original Reversal on another attack.

Wait what?

The ability says "you may only attempt to reverse once per attack." or something close to that. It doesn't say you may only play the ability once per attack.

And "playable once per turn" does still apply if the ability that says that is negated. You played it. Can't play it a second time.

Ok if it says "you may only attempt to reverse once per attack" how is it that if the reversal Keyword is negated, you are allowed to try again? You have already made the attemp to reverse once, off of 1 attack, how is it you are allowed again if you contain a differnt reversal? a differnt reversal does not meet that once per attack, since it is the 2nd reversal attemped of the same 1 attack blocked.. so how does that even work? how is it you may attemp to reverse twice if the 1st is negated? the 2nd reverse kinda misses the timing since its the "2nd" reverse done.

....because attempt to reverse refers to attempting to play the attack, not play the ability. If the ability is negated you haven't done that yet.

ok well Why is the attack portion not included with the Reversal ability? Cause the only way to play a Reversal is to play an attack to your oppents attack than you have blocked. if you are saying Reversal and the attack itself is different, than any player should be able to use the ability reversal when an attack is blocked, since its played b4 the attack itself instead of together. whiether i actully have an attack that i can reversal with or not shouldnt much matter if im only trying to play the ability and not the attack.

401.2.4 Reversal – R: After an opponent’s attack has resolved that a player has blocked, they may immediately play the reversal attack from their hand before the current turn may go on as normal. This attack has an enhance, block, and damage step as normal. Once the reversal attack has been played or failed, blocking determined, and any damage dealt, the player whose turn it is will continue as normal. A player may only attempt to reverse once after an attack.

bold = TRIGGER

trigger = WHEN the response may be attempted

to attempt the response, you reveal the SOURCE of the response - be it a card in the staging area, or in your hand

the opponent then gets a chance to respond to the PLAY of the ability. if the ability is negated, the trigger is still there to be attempted again from another source.

this holds true for EVERY response.
