.. with miniatures. I like the new style very much.

So, to reference the conversation on BGG, why the change of art style? I don't hate it, but isn't changing the style separating Descent 2 from other Terrinoth based games?

As someone said there, this looks more like Cadwallon with a sprinkling of WoW...

Maybe they plan to change the style of future games also ...

There's a lot of reasons, from practical (old artist is no longer available, they have new artist(s) as staff and need constant work, etc), to philosophical (new game needs new art to differentiate from old), to marketing (new time means different visuals to make game on shelf stand out from other games).

But I agree with you, don't really think the visuals needed a facelift. I liked the old Terrinoth. Makes me wonder if all the old games are going to "suddenly" get second editions with the new art style.

And in case anyone wants to see the pic:

There's a larger version over on BGG.

Hopefully not. FFG has never been one to make a new edition for something as trivial as new art (without new rules to go along with them, anyway.) I don't think any of the other Terrinoth games really need a new edition for anything, so i don't know what else would motivate such a new edition.

Great info! Although I think Cadwallon art is great the Descent character art looks quite clumsy. What is important is that the tile art looks superb and the miniatures are top notch.

Taking a closer look, there seems to be four piles of cards with some tokens next to the board tiles. Any ideas what those might be?

It doesn't surprise me that people see a mix of other games that FFG does in this. It seems like most FFG products whether new or new editions of older games always seem to join the cookie cutter of game mechanics they have at their disposal. Not that it is a bad thing but most mechanics found in one FFG product can be found in another FFG product. I'm not all that keen on the new art direction but it looks like they are trying to appeal a bit to the MMORPG players to maybe tear them away from their computer screens just long enough to play one of these things call a "board game". :P

Nice, hear something new about Descent Second Edition . FFG seems to be greedy publish some hot news on official web sites. Thank you Shnar for any infos, you are valuable source of informations for peoples which can't read GTM.
