The Battle of Chesapeake Bay - DC Tournament Results

By danach82, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Thanks to everyone for coming out! We had two great days of events, and I hope everyone had a good time and enjoyed the experience. We’re looking forward to hosting regionals in June!

*Apologies in advance since I don’t know everyone’s board name.

JOUST

Top 4 in joust were:
1st – Lannister Power Behind the Throne played by Robert (DCRobb) of DC
2nd – Stark Siege of Winterfell played by Derek (SirDuck) of PA
3rd – Martell Kings of Summer played by Rachel (?) of PA
4th – Greyjoy no agenda played by Rick (branagan3) of NC

Player breakdown:

18 total players
8 from DC (Stark Siege, 2 Targ Maesters, 2 Lanni PBtT, GJ Maesters)
6 from NY (Stark Maesters, 2 Stark Wildlings, Targ Maesters, Targ Summer, Bara Treaty)
3 from PA (Stark Siege, Lanni PBtT, Martell Maesters)
1 from NC (GJ no agenda)

House Breakdown:

Stark – 5
• 2 Siege of Winterfell / Fear of Winter (SirDuck and JackT)
• Maester’s Path / Fury of the Wolf (Jim)
• Wildling agendas (all 3) / Fear of Winter (Matt)
• Wildling agendas (all 3) / Narrow Escape (JR)

Targaryen – 4
• 3 Maester’s Path / Narrow Escape (Twn2dn, Danigral, Steve)
• Kings of Summer / Fury of the Dragon (Rich)

Lannister – 3
• Power Behind the Throne / Castellan (DCRobb)
• Power Behind the Throne / Fear of Winter (Eric)
• Power Behind the Throne / Pyromancer’s Cache (Jerrin)

Martell – 3
• Maester’s Path / VB (hoyolawya)
• Maester’s Path / Fear of Winter (Pavel)
• Kings of Summer / VB (Rachel)

Greyjoy – 2
• No agenda / Fury of the Kraken (branagan3)
• Maester’s Path / Fury of the Kraken (dh098017)

Baratheon – 1
• Treaty with the South / Fury of the Stag (Nikki)

Thoughts:Maesters again dominated the tournament, but not the final 4. I don’t think it’s because they aren’t the dominant build, but because there is now enough anti-maester toolboxing in the meta to compensate. In my meta at least, it wasn’t thought that Lannister would do as well because of the prevalence of Martell and Targ. The top Lanni player faced Nikki’s Bara, hoyalawya’s Martell masters, JackT’s Stark siege, and a mirror match with Jerrin, losing only in the mirror match. Much also came down to the randomness of the matchups. I myself lost from bad draw in one game where I never got a single maester except the one that got pulled with At the Gates and died to Valar, and in another very slow game timed out with one chain left and hand advantage.

4th – Stark Siege of Winterfell played by Dan A. (Danigral) of DC

Thoughts: There isn’t much to say about melee. Everyone came out to have fun and it was, but it was also very crazy. At the final table it remained very close throughout the game. I got pounded repeatedly for intrigue and got 3 great cards discarded by the end of turn 1. I tried to claw my way back in but unable to win military challenges consistently, I was effectively out. Ironically, I won 4 out of 5 dominance rounds. I think turn 6 both Rachel and Twn2dn could win. Rachel won initiative and went first for the win with Twn2dn at 9 power, Jerrin at 11, and me at 8.

I found the Power Behind the Throne decks to be formidable. The Plots in that deck are a *****. Also having 3 Misinformations played on you in 2 rounds is no picnic.

OTOH it is good to see Lanni winning.

Your one Maester was de-maestered by Old Nan in the first round or so. Just saying.

Yeah, I can understand. I never played any Lanni that day. I'm actually surprised you didn't play Lanni for joust.

Was a ton of fun thanks for hosting the tournament and I hope to do it again at some point. I may get around to posting a tourny report but if not I would like to say that central pa needs more players. We were well represented in the top 4 though with 2 of our 3 players making the cut each day. If only we could field another handful of players we could have an official meta as it stands we are the only 3 that play around here.

Are Decklists available?

I was surprised that most people didn't recognize Misinformation. Talking to the other two lanni players (this is Jerrin), I found out they didn't know about it. Pairing it with Shadows and Spiders, especially against a first turn Fear of Winter is just too good. I was able to use them in tandem in 3 of my 4 games and it put me so far ahead in my first two games that neither opponent could recover.

I'll recognize it now.

Your Iron Throne wasn't hurting you either.

I must admit missing Misinformation in my deck building. Rather, I did not see its entire potential. I think the only game I really missed having it was the game your stomped me pretty good with it (and everything else that followed it), though it might have come in handy in my game against Brian too. I think I will give it a good look for future Lannister rebuilds.

I sure was happy that I guessed right, at least in those I played, that the community seemed to have embraced the fear of attachment hate, as I had nothing to deal with them myself.

I must add a congratulations to Rachel on her Melee (and I am certain Overall too!) victory.

On an additional note, whoever is missing a few blue and yellow glass counters from the Joust day, I have them and would be happy to get them back to you. I was informed they were believed to belong to Dennis', but that seems to have been proven false.

Yes, I said I would post this up for props...

As the only player to have made it to final four on both days, Rachel is the overall champ! Congratulations, Rachel!
