Invocation Specialities?

By StephenE, in WFRP Rules Questions

In the skills list under Invocation it says that each deity has it's own specalisation for Invocation. Where do I find these?

Thanks

Nowhere.

Specialisations are just a word next to a skill on your character sheet that allow you to roll an additional fortune dice under certain circumstances, in this instance the word would be "Shallya" next to Invocation (or whatever the appropriate god for your priest is).

On these boards there seems to be a general consensus that the specialisation examples in the book are very poorly thought out (How do you specialise in your order of magic/god when you can only cast spells/blessings from that order to begin with?)

Oh. Right.

I thought it might be -

Morr - speciality - spells vs undead.

Shalkyia - speciality - healing spells.

Sigmar - speciality - Sigmar spells

ectre

But yes, I've already noticed the speciality's list were VERY poorly thought out.

Thanks

yeah, your ideas are better already than those in the book ;-)

in my group these specialisations are bought just with the dedication bonus, because you get one free then. they are not very creative

we generally all choose our spec. without the players guide. for example our slayer is specialized in jumping, because he likes to run fast and jump at mosters...that is alot more fun than just plain "one-handed weapon"...

Speaking of 1-handed weapon and similar WS specialties:

I've ruled that the players choose a specialty for WS that goes like this:

[Fighting style] [Weapon Type]

So you get things like:

Two-handed Axe

1-Handed Flail

Dual-wield Knives

That a SPECIALISATION in melee fighting should be as broad as you being "specially trained" in using ANYTHING in 1 hand seems silly. That's what the WS skill itself represents. Your general ability to fight with any weapon you pick up.

I agree with Ralzar. WS and Spellcraft specialisations are too broad.

yes that was actually the fiest flaw i discovered when i started playing the game. the weapons are the same, you can buy a "one-handed-weapon", and no matter which weapon you use, you will always be able to weild it, be it axe, knife, sword or dagger...

i would love to see a rule in which you will have to specify a weapon preference, so that you actually get better results fighting with that weapon...

Specializations were left vague in the rulebook because they were intended to be ruled/restricted/approved by the individual GM. You'll see that sort of mindset in a lot of WFRP. They made some rules fairly loose to give the GM flexibility and control. All specializations really need to be discussed and approved by the GM.
