Anyone start to scratch build any troops or variations? Anyone include Dust components in a gamepiece used for another game? Let's see some ideas. I'm also thinking of making a Dust costume for local events. Either just a cap/Helmet and jacket/shirt or go head to toe if I can afford. IvanTT had a great US Army Aircorp uniform this weekend and it was inspiring.
Scratch built or converted troops?
Plastic infantry models from tamiya are gret for conversion as Inf armor 1. http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/32513army_giset/index.htm Making a costume isn't anything hard to do especially with the popular recoonstruction groups here in Warsaw. Altrough i don't think it would be comfortable to play in those:D
Have a plan to use the AT 43 Sgt Borz mini as a Luftwaffe pilot, most likely for an advanced 262 HG kit. Looks to be a good match-up will most likely just remove the "briefcase" and add a set of goggles and an oxy-mask to the helmet.
I plan to use a couple of minis from 1-48 Combat as Armor Class 1 heroes (nonetheless!), and as soon as a scrape together enough money, to get a trio of diesel-powered APE grunts (I don't like the polished look of Armor Class 3 Allied infantry).
war game factory make great pieces for conversion plus you get 30 guys (100+ positions) for $20 or so then all you need is some green stuff and you can get some really cool guns on ebay. I made Apache close combat fighters thus far and a bunch of Nazi/ allied zombies thus far. and they work great
I just converted some German/Allied troops to make British Paras. Ill post pics soon just need to finish basing.
Here's a comparisson pic of DT, Tamiya 1/48 Grenadiers and Heroscape US Airborne:

Great! Along the gas mask spare heads made by West Wind, they will work fine as Infantry 1 troops.
I also plan on fielding a couple of these Mekatanks made by Gaso Line, as judging by the size they should be workable Armor 2 walkers - and adding some grenade launchers to the Axis side for a twist.
Hmmmm the Mekatanks are kinda neat please let us know how they turn out?
I'm currently using the Wargames Factory Shocktroopers as proxies for Axis Tank Killers.

How do they scale up next to Dust minis?

Can we see pics of these minis you mention?
Here's Manfred flanked by a WF heavy weapons trooper and WF shock trooper. Yes, I have replaced Manfreds head with one of the shock troopers.
And another shot
This commander has one of the heads from the WF heavy weapons squad.
Here are some Armor1 Infantry I made from Wargames Factory WW2 sets (Late War German Infantry and Late War American Infantry). The figures are slightly smaller than DT minis - 1/56 scale rather than 1/48 - but that's barely noticeable, and they feature lots of details and custom options, both in weaponry, poses, and extra equipment. Moreover, you end up with a truckload of spare bits (ammo clips, grenades, purses, canteens, backpacks, large ammo cases, etc.), very useful for your regular DT troops or to give vehicles some more character.
As I had only seven spare Dust Tactics bases, I made a Command Squad type for the Allies and a 2-men sniper team for the Axis. I also gave the whole of them a light priming with Death World Forest and Adeptus Battlegrey.
The sniper team, with a spotter armed with an MP40 and a sniper armed with a scoped semi-automatic Gewehr 43.
The command squad, with Medic holding a canteen and pointing a pistol (but he has a Thompson submachine gun strapped to his backpack), a kneeling rifleman armed with a BAR light machinegun, officer with binoculars and Thompson submachinegun, specialist (mechanic?) with a truckload of packs and purses and a "grease gun" submachinegun, and finally another rifleman with a second BAR light machinegun, in a more dynamic pose (more on that later).
The Allied squad flanked by a Hans Light Panzer Walker, for size reference - and to better explain that weird BAR wielding, frenzied/scared pose.
I purchased some West Wind paratrooper heads and printed out some decals to make some 101st units
Here is a converted Allied Sniper I made -- I modeled him after one of my favorite G.I. Joe characters: "Snow Job". (swapped the head with one of the heads from the Dust-Models tank squad kit, used green stuff for the hood and to attach the skis - which are just cut from an old library card ).
Here's my new Mekatank unit (Wolf I ausf B), which I think will make a good AR2 unit. The greenish splashes are from liquid Green Stuff I used to mask mold lines, while the bags on the side (green too) are resin accessories made by Black Dog. I also glued on the top the engine cover taken from the Loth. Right now it's stil partially unassembled, as I have left the legs, body and weapons detachable for ease of painting.
The set is from Gaso Line, made of resin, and requires a bit of work to get it ready for assembling. The pieces have a lot of flash, mold lines, and the leg pieces require some careful drilling to fit the feet, knee and hip peg joints. Not for the faint hearted.
Shown side to side with the usual Hans for size refence:
And next to my custom Loth:
Single 20mm autocannon, with night vision scope:
Grenade Launcher:
Top engine cover:
I'll rename it as Panzer Aufklarerlaufer Is-N Natter (viper), used as a scout vehicle, for urban fighting, close support and infantry hunting. While outclassed both by AR3 and 4 walkers and AR3 infantry, it holds its own against the lighter vehicles and troops, being especially suited to hunt down snipers and artillery spotters thanks to its weaponry and high mobility.
Now, onward to priming and painting.
I really like that walker. Please post more as you get it.
Thanks. Currently painting it, while experimenting a pea-dot camo of sorts seen on a Sturmgeschutz IV. Hope to finish it this week end.
Got Johnny One-Eye, but the original head was a mess : bad casting and too much primer. The mini is also somewhat bland, so I decided to modify it a bit. Added a belt and holster + stuck a 40K IG officer head, modified the crest and drilled in a rod for the cigar… If only my painting and photo skills could match my crafting skills. At least, now, he looks like a proper officer/hero.
I love him ! But the hat puts him more on the SSU side;)
Love those brit Red Berets.
