Are Rak'Gol a litle too tough for Rogue Trader?

By qcipher, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

25 wounds, SB 8, TB 8, Multiple arms and decent weapons and armour. I run a Deathwatch game also and these seem pretty ideal for a decent fight against Space Marines. I'm running the Edge of the Abyss adventure and I'm worried I'll a total party wipe before they can escape. There are plenty of things that can prevent that, but based off of Edge of the Abyss and the preview for the Rogue Trader Bestiary, these guys seem plenty difficult.

One of the best weapons in the group is the AM's Storm Bolter, which last game made paste out of some Orks, these guys though...maybe not.

Best part is that by the fluff they hunt in packs of up to twenty and like ambush tactics.

Yeah, especially considering that one on its own is quite a handful.

Now (different topic) their ships I'm not as concerned about. Their ships are challenging, I initially didn't see the problem as they use low damage weapons mostly, but since they have a high Str, so it can add up on a good shot. But I don't see that as being as lopsided as a melee or firefight.

My players will be running into some Rak'Gol in the future to I'm a little worried about it to.

Wouldn't it be possible to set the fights up in some way that the players can use tactics and the enviroment to perhaps off-set a little of the Rak'Gols' sheer killing power?

Easy, make the fit not include just the Explorers. I just got done running such an adventure, here is what I did (for an example):

They were on planet when Rak'Gol showed up. After a hasty return to their ship aboard a guncutter they came in pretty hot. Right behind them was a Rak'Gol assault/boarding craft that also crashed into the landing bay with them. ~15 or so of the Xenos disembarked. Most of the fight was narrative combat where the Rak'Gol went about slaughtering crew. Meanwhile, they tried to turn their guncutter to use its weapons but one of the Rak'Gol jumped onto the ship and attempted to bust through the cockpit. The Rogue Trader and Arch-Militant went outside on the guncutter and fought the beast. In the end they won, but the RT was pretty beat up and if not for a very lucky "out of the side hatch" shot from their seneschal with his inferno pistol there may have been FP used.

Anyway, they fought Rak'Gol. And yes, Rak'Gol are nasty. So the trick is, show how tough they are by making them fight one or two (depending on party size and Rank) and leave the rest in the background.
