Martell / Greyjoy deck help please

By Gilbert3, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Hi there,

Me and my friend are getting into this game. We love it so far and have bought a number of packs / expansions between us. We are mainly using the decklists from the expansion boxes to build our decks as a starting point but the Martell and Greyjoy boxes dont come with any suggested decks.

Can anyone help with a deck list for each? :)

Between us we have the following boxes

  • Core set x 2
  • Princes of the Sun
  • Kings of the Storm
  • Kings of the Sea
  • Lords of Winter
  • Queen of Dragons
  • A Ravens Song
  • Refugees of War
  • The War of the Five Kings x 2
  • Tourney for the Hand
  • Forging the Chain
  • The Isle of Ravens
  • Here to Save
  • Gates of the Citadel.

We would be very grateful for any help.

Thank you for reading.

Agotcards and cardgamedb are full of decklists, but if you want to make your own decks pretty easy, just do this:

-60 cards

-15 locations: about half of that gold and cost reducers... but generally don't add more than 6 limited cards.

- 24-30 characters, and roughly half of those characters cost 2 or lower; if you go less than 30, fill the rest with locations that do things. This will make your deck slower, but give you more of a control aspect to the deck.

-15 everything else.

In your plot deck, run valar morghulis. Besides that, 4+ gold on plots is a safe amount of gold, don't run anything less then that unless you're getting a lot out of the plot's effect.

-Run around 6-8 cards that will give you card draw. Re-usable draw is the best. Just hit up the search engines on one of the sites, and type "draw" or "reveal" into the text field. Sometimes these are harder to find if you're new.

If you can do all that, your decks should run pretty smooth. Also try and find a way to deal with locations and characters at least. (maybe slot 3 cards each?) As you get better, you'll learn how much of what type of control you need, or if you even need it at all.

If you're having trouble building decks, just find a subtheme you really like, and add cards that work well with each other.

Don't worry too much if your decks are "tourney worthy" or whatever until you get a good feel for the game's many mechanics. I would dive into competitive play a little later.

Are you trying to build joust or melee decks?

Having all of the Refugees and 3x At the Gates is useful; the Hosts are ok too.
Martell can build a decent revenge deck running 3x Red Viper, Red Vengeance, Taste for Blood, Ellaria, He Calls it Thinking, etc.
GJ is a bit more complicated - maybe try for an unopposed theme, especially for melee. They also have access to a ton of saves, Risen from the Sea, Wendamyr, Iron Mines & Cliffs... like Rave said, try picking a subtheme and running with it for some basic deckbuilding ideas.
If you are primarily building joust decks with a pretty close group of players, go ahead and proxy your Condemned by the Realms into Valars/Wildfires.
