Regional events - Timing

By darknoj, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

The call for people to submit their request to hold a regional event has been sent out by FFG. I know on the form they ask that you have a back up date from the one you are to suggest for you event so that they can ensure the events are a bit staggered. But I was thinking it would be nice to try and work with the other people who will be sending in event submissions to time the regional evnets with in driving distance so that there is a month or more period between the events.

I thought this thread could be a good place to start by just listing those who are going to submit a request to run a event and the current dates their thinking of.

I will start:

Location: Ottawa Canada *** for those that don’t know Ottawa is in the province of Ontario about 7 hours north and a little west of New York city or 8.5 hours North East from Detroit.

Time : currently we are looking at lining up are timing with one of are larger gaming conventions on the May 26th long weekend or in July since we would have a very nice location to host for free in July as well as the possibility to put up any players that may come from out of town (no hotel costs are always good).

Good thinking! As DeathJester mentioned, the SoCal Thrones group is aiming to host a regional in April. I think the closest metas are the Bay Area and now the burgeoning Vegas group and they’re already well-aware, but hopefully we’ll get some more travelers from afar. Here’s the info:

Location: San Diego, California
Event: Kingdom Con (3 days of awesome gaming at the Crowne Plaza in Hotel Circle.. Con website is http://www.kingdom-con.com/ )
Melee: Friday, April 13 (6pm start, 5:30 reg)
Joust: Saturday, April 14 (12pm start, 11:30am reg)

Preliminary estimates are well above 20 participants. With lots of folks staying at the hotel it’s bound to be a fun-filled (and not necessarily sober) weekend. Here’s the event thread: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_discusion.asp?efid=16&efcid=4&efidt=618086

Given our meta's discussions last year, NYC will host its Regional sometime in June. If that changes one of us will post here. Ideally though, the (North) East Coast would have only one Regional a month. I'm pretty sure Regionals 3 weeks in a row last year hurt attendance at all three tournaments.

Longclaw is probably looking at a June date for TN, but he is not sure what weekend yet.

Not sure when we are shooting for, but we're hoping to get one in Cincinnati. Maybe mid to late May or early June. Pretty close to the Lexington and Columbus metas, if they want to join us and if anyone else feels like taking a road trip then we could have a really decent sized event.

Oh balls. Missouri was going to go for a June date as well....

I swear I looked for one of these when I made my thread, Jon, but you obviously beat me to it. :)

Cincinatti would be tempting for us in TN, actually. Not a bad trip for us at all.

We might instead be hosting late April or early May. More details to be posted.

DC is thinking about a early June date.

Location: Burlingame, CA
Event: Kublacon - Hyatt Regency Burlingame - www.kublacon.com
Melee: Saturday May 26th, 930 am
Joust: Sunday May 27th, 930 am

Does anyone know how late FFG usually considers? Is a early July date feasible?

Is Kubla going to be an 'overall' champion (as I fear) or are you listing both for completeness' sake?

NYC is looking at late April -- the 28th. It's not definite, but it's our tentative date.

Dear FFG,

Can Minnesota be late May this year?

Sincerely,

Thunder Bay Meta

The Days of Ice and Fire is May 18-20. Thats as late as you can get and not run into memorial day weekend.

Hosting our Regional in late April! Take note Missouri players! We'll hopefully be heading your way for Moonboy and your Regionals.

Ah, crud. Late April, I think most of us are heading to WilyCon in Nebraska..... Which weekend are you shooting for? The Con up there is the weekend of the 20th. If it's not the same weekend, I might be able to finagle work so that I can get out of work on that Saturday morning.

I could make a Sunday event no problem, Saturday would be unlikely though.

Is there going to be any regionals in WI or Chicago? I'm in MN but have a conflict with ours.

As was Iowa (though I'm not involved in the planning at this point)...

And I do know Chicago was submitting an application, I would assume (?) that they would get one... and not run by the crowd that organized it last year.

As far as I know, Melee will not count towards overall champion.

Tennessee is looking at likely a June 30th date.

Please not the same guys that ran it last year... it was like a... corrupted MtG event or something.
