meet our ship

By Aestaban, in Rogue Trader

Hey guys,

were playing Rouge Trader for a year or so now, and as a Tech-Priest i though a lot about the construction of our ship.

Unfortunately, there are only very informations... Therefore I had to experiment myself

This is the first Result:

hadesdeckplan.jpg

every Square is 150*150 meter, but the plans are, dispite my calculations, not very accurate

therefore i tried something else, this time in 3d

hadesg.jpg

a look at the different sections, already colored:

hadessections.jpg

according to 3ds max, the ship has a volume of over 2.000.000.000m³

If someone is interested, i can post some more informations

And i would be glad about some feedback

oh yeah, the data of the ship

Dauntless-class light cruiser
Dimensions: 4.5 km long, 0.5 km abeam at fins approx.
Mass: 20 megatonnes approx.
Crew: 65000 crew, approx.
Space: 60

Supplemental Components
Prow Sunhammer Lance Weapon;
Port Sunsear Laser Battery
Starboard Sunsear Laser Battery
Trophy Room
Murder Servitors
Tenebro-Maze
Temple-Shrine To The God Emperor
Teleportarium

That is incredibly awesome!!!

Incredible work! =D

How did you calculate how many Squares does a Component use?

thanks for the nice replys!

the squares?

gooooood question

this took me a lot of work

The basis for my calculations were the size of the ship according to the data, the silhouette of the ship and the SPACE (60)

then i used the grid of Photoshop and tried around until i got 60 Squares inside of the silhouettes. As i said, not very accurate, but it gave me an idea of the ship

for the 3d model i used the figure of the office fleet gothic kit and just a simple ruler..., then i started to build it up piece by piece

next i checked how much volume the model had

these are the numbers:

bow: ~310.000.000m³
middel: ~330.000.000m³
stern: ~400.000.000m³

i had to leave some volume out of the calculation, because not everything you can find in a ship is included in the RT components (a small hanger oder storage for example)

in the end i assumed 1.200.000.000m³ volume for the main parts of the ship

that means one unit of SPACE is roughly 20.000.000m³, that means ~ 270m*270m*270m

all of this is not perfect of course, but that dosen't matter anyway. as other people had already pointed out, the SPACE is only an abstract unit. it makes no use to be to precice with your measurement when using SPACE.

hope my answer was useful

If you want more pictures, i can provide them

Pictures saved and thread bookmarked. :)

I would love to see more pictures! =D

BTW, how long did it take you to make the first picture (the 2D one)? Do you acept commissions to make other people's ship plans (like the 2D model, which is the one I liked the most)?

Finally, what software did you use to make the 2D plans?

That's brilliant! I just wish you'd been around a few months ago when I was looking for schematics and ideas for how to layout a Dauntless for my players gran_risa.gif

well, it took me some hours to figure out how to do this, I used photoshop CS3 by the way

to make a new ship that way should not be difficult, just give me the type of the ship and the components, and i will see what i can do, don’t know how long you will have to wait though…

but please don't post ship-stats, that would be against the rules i believe

Awesome, thanks you very much! =D

I'm not in a hurry, so take all the time you need.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Maese,

here is the result so far. You use some components I could'nt find in the books so please post the SPACE they use.

About the plan: This time i used 1 Square = 1 SPACE

Next question is about the postition of the other components. You could use paint or GIMP to colour the spots were you want them. Just make some simple marks. I used the same colours for the components as in the other plan. You can already see the plasma and warp drive, bridge, viod shields, weapons, crew quarters and life sustainers. If you want them some where else just say so.

Tyrant-Class Deckplan

Thank you for your interest!

wow, so far this looks awesome. =D

The Components you could find are probably the ones from Hostile Acquisitions, here you have their Space:

*Auto Temple: 1

*Laboratorium: 1

*Sensorium: 1

All other Component are from the Core or Into the Storm.

About Component placement, to be honest I don't know much about starship construction not where the components should or not be. So I'll give you some guidelines and you can put them where you feel it's right (my players have no idea eighter, by the way =P):

*Auto Temple: the cool thing about this component is that you can detach it from you ship to have a ready to use cathedral on any world the Missionary has to convert to the Imperial faith. Bases on that, it should be eighter near the bottom of the ship (although I don't know if anyone woul put a temple near the underdecks) or near any side wall (after all space doesn't have up or down, so you can just launch the components from the side).

*Laboratorium: As near the bridge as it can be sounds like a good idea.

*Sensorium: it's basically a giant brothel-component, so it has to be near the crew quarters! =P

*Luxury Quarters: I imagine them far from the crew quarters but as near to the Auto Temple and Sensorium as posssible.

*Librarium: as near the bridge as possible, next the Laboratorium as well.

*Arboretum: I imagine it near the upper top of the ship, near the Observation Dome.

*Compartmentalized Cargo Hold: you already took care of that (although I imagine it more near the bottom of the ship in a lower deck rather than so close to the bridge... maybe you could move it, specially to incluse the Librarium and Laboratorium near the bridge).

*Broadband Hymn-Casters: they don't have a space requirement, so I imagine they are just attached somewhere in the Bridge (like the ship's Augurs).

*Augmented Retro-Thrusters: since they are "retro", y suppose they are near the front of the ship to allow better backward movement.

*Observation Dome: in the upper part of the ship, since it needs an open dome to see the starts.

*Tenebro-Maze: no idea on this one, anywhere sounds good to me.

*Muerder-Servitors: far from the Luxury Quaters I imagine, since you don't want your special guests get lost and end up in a giant fridge full of assassin robots. =P

Again, thank you very much. =D

did you.. make the 3ds yourself..?

Here it is,

i hope you like it. Took me much longer than i though. Problem is, that I am just a noob in Photoshop and forgot all the details. And I made a lot of mistakes to, so I had to redo it. Anyway. If there is something you want to change, just say so.

I made a very crude 3d model, to get an idea of the scale (~2.000.000.000m³), so it should be more or less accurate.

There is one error that i know of: The Sensorium is on Deck 1, not Deck 2. When i realised that, it was too late. But if you really want, i can fix that.

Tyrant-Class Deckplan FINAL

@ Telosse: I am proud to say: yes, yes, and yes again. But have you check THAT guy out?

http://thelordinquisitor.com/

i mean... compared to him i am just drawing stick figures with watercolours...

Here another pic of the hades

http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/2636/hades01.jpg

@Aesteban:

Yup, checked the guy as well. But somehow I prefer simple voidships 3d images (or 3d Objects), unrendered (with only showing lines); feels more blueprint-y :P

Anyways your work is really great :D

here an alternative, experimental version, without using offical FFG Background

Tyrant-Parchment

@Aestaban: wow, this looks awesome!!! =D Thank you very much!

A few comments:

1) Could you give the pictures a bigger resolution (like the Hades picture)?

2) Observation Dome: the component description says it's located on the ship's spine (that is, upper part of the ship). Is it too complicated for you to move it to the empy spot neat the Bridge?

3) Sensorium: like I said above, and if isn't very complicate, maybe you could put this component just below the Observation Dome (not the current position, but the one I suggested in point 2), in one of the empy spots between the Sunhammer Laser and the Void Shield Array.

4) Auto Temple: if you move the observation Dome, then the Auto Temple could be moved to that spot so that it can de-attach itself from the ship from the lower part and "fall" into planetary surface.

I really like how you made the ship, Aesteban, both versions are awesome, my players are gonna love it. Thank you very much! =D

Here the new version. The jpg is 2MB so it should be big enough!
http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/7847/tyrantclassdeckplanfina.jpg

Two points:

1. there are 78 squares in the ship, not just 77. i really wasn't able to fix that
2. The Tenebro-Maze: i don't know how to deal with this component. components are placed where they are not expected? how should that work? put the plasma-drive in the front? and where to put the component? it's spread over the whole ship. You could decrease the SPACE of the Ship to represent that. But this idea came to late to me though.

Hope you like it anyway!

How quick! I love it, it's freaking awesome, Aesteban! =D

I will send the image to my players right away.

1- That's okay, I imagine odd square numbers are difficult to distribute. Don't worry.

2- Yeah, the tenebro-maze must be really difficult to place since it's a component that covers the whole ship (for example, I dont allow that component to be affected by Critical Hits, because that wouldn't make sense). After I fot Into the Storm I've had the feeling that the tenebro-Maze should not be a Component, but a Ship Upgrade that permanently reduces the Ship's Space and Power, like Vaulted Ceilings.

Again, thank you very much for your excellent work! =D
