So, I look at the various weapons available, and I like a number of the things I see. I'll always be a fan of plasma, bolter, and melta pistols, and I really like ripper pistols, on face value, but I occasionally see something I would want to do to make them better. Higher Craftsmanship is an easy option, but what if you wanted it to be re-tooled, a bit, maybe given a Trait the gun doesn't already have? In Black Crusade, there is an interesting Inquisitor there, named Victoria Aldrich (BC, p.367) and she has a very nice plasma pistol, that happens to have Proven (4). Proven is a weapon Trait that I keep finding myself liking more and more, but I was wondering how you might have a weapon get it, or Sanctified, or whatever have you? The role-playing aside, (such as the humbly requesting a Ministorum priest to bless the weapon, and Sanctify it, after paying homage to the Emperor, and maybe giving a sizable donation, or hitting up a Tech Priest Magos to tinker with the gun, and make it Proven (1), after paying his fees), I assume it boils down to your standard Acquisition test. If that's the case, then how does it affect the difficulty? Maybe -10 each sensible upgrade? An additional -10 per bump up on the (X) factor of some?
Say I wanted to duplicate that nice Inq. Anointed Plasma Pistol, does this math seem okay? Very Rare (-20), Proven (4) (-40), Sanctified (-10), Scale (+30) for a total diff of -40. This seems rather difficult, but certainly doable, with the right incentives, and could make for a very nice weapon. Otherwise, i don't know how weapons get Proven, as nothing starts with it (I know it isn't in RT, but its rarely on the lists in books it is in (Daemon Hunter and BC).
Opinions please? How does this look? What might others do differently? Thanks much for your attention.
